Places to eat in Gorod Astana

I am sorry that I do not have a photo of the Lime Brew Restaurant in Astana.

I walked to this restaurant from the Radisson SAS hotel. They can give you directions to find this restaurant. It was probably a 10-15 minute walk. The weather was cool but not cold so it made for refreshing exercise.

As I recall the restaurant has colorful stained glass windows that draw your eye. Even inside, the stained glass reds and oranges highlight the decorations.

When you enter you realize that the restaurant has a medieval theme. There are large and heavy tables and chairs and a blazing spit where the steaks are cooked.

You can tell by the happy conversation going on throughout the room that the patrons are enjoying the ambiance and the food and drink. The staff was friendly and provided good service.

I had a horse steak that I enjoyed. But the menu is varied and you will find something for anyone's tastes.

While there are at least 100 different ethnic cuisines in Kazakhstan, courtesy of a history which created a very diverse population, few of them are known for their vegetarianism.

Trust me, Kazakhs do love their meat. The ethnic Kazakhs have traditionally been nomads, and horses, as well as sheep, were the main providers for their very existence.

Meat, and nutrients found in it, have for millennia been the food staple of the locals as they braved demanding lifestyles and harsh winters. While eating horse meat may sound inhumane for some, certain horses in Kazakhstan, just as in France and even Texas, are specifically raised for meat, just like cows and buffalo.
