Kazakhstan has extreme fluctuations in weather

Luggage and bags: Be careful of being overweight on luggage. Fees for overweight luggage on airlines can cost you as much as an individual airline ticket itself.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: This will depend upon the time of the year that you are visiting Kazakhstan and to what part of Kazakhstan you will be going.

Photo Equipment: You will be very sad if you do not have a good digital camera with you to record your adventures.

Miscellaneous: Kazakhstan is so large that it can have all of the same kind of weather patterns that western Europe has all at the same time. So that means that Kazakhstan is a land of extreme differences in weather. When planning a trip, depending upon where you are venturing in Kazakhstan, be sure to check the weather and pack accordingly.

Although a July day in the desert will likely be around 90°F (32°C) it could plunge to about half that at night. Fortunately the low humidity moderates the daytime highs making them more mild.

But winter is very long and can be extreme in Kazakhstan. Depending upon where you are, the day temperature might get to 16°F (9°C)before it drops to an bitter 5°F (-15°C) at night. Snow starts to fall around November and the mountain passes continue to fill with snow until April or May.

Higher altitudes will see more rainfall, particularly in the east around April and May.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Extreme cold weather gear is essential in winter, if you go up the mountains at all. Boots not shoes.

Miscellaneous: If you are going to the more remote regions, you might like to bring a few items of clothing or toys etc as presents for the children of people with whom you might become friendly. Many Kazakhstan citizens today, particularly in the interior of the country, are living on pennies, thanks to the absurd and corrupt way the country is run. Without being condescending, it is possible to diplomatically help people without even putting out much in the way of money or effort.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Take some general medicines with you because the medicines here have other names & it'll be complicated to find the one you need.
