As it was so long ago I was in Kara-Kol
I thought it only fair to post a recent review
I grabbed off the net. Being as I was the first
Western 'Tourist' in the town in 1991.
There was a small team of climbers
the year before, but they didn't stay
longer than a day on their way to climb
the great Tien Shan peaks.

" I went to Karakol-Ski within few days of its reopening in December 2004.
It is a relatively small resort if you compare it to something like Chamonix,
but the staffs there are very friendly. It does have great scenery and most o
f the runs go through wooded areas. There is a nice restaurant on-site
offering traditional Russian and Kyrgyz cuisine together with some
European meals, there is also high quality accommodation on-site
including 2 chalet lodges. From what I've heard they have added 3 new
lifts so I am planning on going there again in January of 2006, because
when I went they only had 2. They have a website(in Russian) up at
www.karakol-ski.com I've emailed them asking for an English one to
be put up, they said they were working on it and will do so soon.
Getting around Kyrgyztan is not easy however cause hardly anyone
there knows English, but these guys offer transportation from the Airport
to the resort if required. If you want to try something new that this resort is
definitely worth looking into."
