Biodegradable laundry soap

by Eish

In one day (in August), we travelled from Suusamyr to Fergana Valley to Osh, which meant thermals, gloves and waterproof shoes for snow switched for short sleeved t-shirts and sandals a few hours later. At high altitude it is cold, and in other places gloriously hot and suitable for swimming. Be prepared - pack a wide variety if you are going in summer! If you will be there for a while, and will be camping, take biodegradable laundry soap to wash in the rivers.Medical kit included altitude medication (Diamox), something for nausea and vomitting (valoid, both suppository and oral), diarrhoea medication (immodium, probiotic, pectrolyte), headaches and pain (tablet combining paracetomol, codeine and ibuprofen), rehydrating salts, antihistamine cream and tabs for stings and bites, decongestant, high factor sunscreen and lipbalm, assorted bandages adhesive and non-adhesive, disinfectant or...

Trekkers should bring...

by His_Beloved

Even in the summer months, if you go up into the mountains you might come across really cold and wet conditions - so be prepared and bring water proof clothes, trekking boots, warm hat, gloves and warm clothes. renting equipment can be a challenge in many areas, so try to bring what you can (tent, sleeping bag, etc.) or contact a CBT office in each region to find out what's available.

Save alot buying it in Bishkek

by Tipper

If you come for organized mountain trekking where luggage will be carried by porters you should pack your stuff in a few smaller bags instead of one big as local mountain porters prefer to carry things inside their own backpacks or attaching it to backpack. If you come for mountain activity you should bring good shoes that can stand occasional snow walks. If you are on the road tour you can even save money by buying shoes in one of the Bishkek shops or "Dordoi Bazaar". They offer a good choice and price. And you can bargain!!! Outdoor clothing at "Dordoi Bazaar": North Face rainjacket from $50, Gore-Tex stuff - from $50, Polar jackets (Hardwear) from $40. You better plan extra day for shopping at Dordoi instead of paying excess luggage. You should always have toilet paper travelling with you as some public toilets, especially ones along the road do not have it. Bring your camera. If...

All types of clothing...from swimming suit, light summer suits to warm cloth. As there is lot of temperature difference in cities like Bishkek and high altitude mountains like son-kul lake area. Photographic equipment are available at big shops in Bishkek at cheaper rate. You can hire Yurts at good price even in mountains but if you like you can take your own camps etc.

Packing List

Well, it depends... If you wish to go on an adventure trip, you 'd better carry a sack that will bear harsh weather and conditions in general easily. Otherwise any type of a bag will do. Resort All toilettery things can be bought in big cities, while if you need some special drugs you'd better bring them with you. You'd better select the easiest thing you have. I could not fins special batteries for my Pentax camera and chances are that you won't find, too. You'd better carry some film, too, if you want a high ISO one. You should take a Russian phrasebook, as few people especially in the mountainous regions understand English. A good map may also be of use if hiking - you won't find them on sale there.
