Don Det and Don Khone have countless restaurants to choose from. They all serve roughly the same menu at the same prices. However, we found this to be quite satisfactory both with the view on the Mekong directly next to the old French Railroad bridge, the portion sizes and the quality of food.
Favorite Dish: Yellow noodle and noodle soups were great for 15,000 kip each.
The Lao Lao cocktail was excellent (Lao whiskey, lime & honey). Of all the places I tried in Loas, this was the best that I had... Basically a Lao version of a Mojito!!!

I'm not sure how the restaurant closest to the most expensive hotel on the island could be so cheap, but I believe it was cheapest menu on island. The restaurant did not have an outdoor seating area like the others closer to the "bridge", but they big windows still allowed for plenty of fresh air. The portions were great and the taste was delicious.
Favorite Dish: I had Tom Yum Chicken (local chicken soup w/ garlic & bamboo). BBQ fish & veggies was delicious. Both about 20,000 kip.

Many of the menus in the restaurants are copied from one to another. The prices vary only a little, but the quality can change greatly. This little restaurant has a wonderful outdoor patio, sitting directly over the water of the Mekong. You can sit outside, having a wonderful meal and watch the waters pass below and the clouds float overhead!
Favorite Dish: Excellent yellow curry (20,000 kip) & larp fish (30,000 kip) & potato salad (15,000 kip). (in the picture)
But ate here a few times and enjoyed it every time.
