street food vendors: self service by Mekong
The food market is by the Mekong bank in the very centre of town and by the end of the main square - where colonial houses are. You cannot miss since it's so central. It's good place to try local food: they have different kind of fish, local sauces, vegetable and meat broths, chicken, pork and buffalo BBQ, skin stripes, laap, condiments and vegetable to eat it with, and of course - here you can buy sticky rice. We usually bought fish BBQ or papaya salad with some other ingredients and then ate it in the garden of our guesthouse. If they would have any seats with small table we would eat right next to food market as it's excellent place to watch people.Food is clean and safe to eat - having generally spicy properties (soups and sauces) it has its positive (or negative) effect on body, depends on how you're used to it, of course.As elsewhere in Lao towns: there are of course sit-down...
