My first day on the boat was a really cool experience, on a spacious boat with comfortable seats. However after one night in Pakbeng, the three boats we arrived on became two! The boatmen decided that they would send the best boat back to Huay Xai and squeeze everyone onto the other two.
The boats were just about seaworthy but not very comfortable and everyone was upset at the motives of the crew, who were more interested in making money than keeping the tourists safe.

In truth I can tell you very little about Pakbeng. I spent a night here seven years ago, and another a few weeks ago. On the latter occasion, I spent the entire time in bed suffering a minor illness....

This village has been built up in hurry for tourism, but it is actualy quite nice. Food seems to be quite similar in most places, except a somewhat strange looking Indian place.
