This centrally located square with a fountain in the middle is a common meeting point and a good reference in Vientiane.
Here you can find many restaurants (mostly french) with terraces where you can enjoy a quiet cool dinner.
If you head southwards to the river, you will find on the way many bars and terraces for a drink too.

A few bars are in downtown in the area around most hotels most of them are western style and all are fun and safe.
