You won't go to Sayabouly for shopping except you're into furniture and wood business. Markets sell mostly Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese stuff, from kitchen supply to clothes ... but you can find locally grown vegetables and fruit, eggs, meats and fish. Milk and yoghurt can be bought from small shops which are usually by markets.

In Hongsa you can buy wonderfully weaved sarongs and minority handicraft. You can get cheap locally grown tobacco there too. Delicious pineapples can be bought from Hmong villagers at the small market place at the road between Pak Lay and Saya, somehow in the middle. In Sayabouly market they sell nice bamboo rice baskets and containers of good quality.

What to buy: local foods and products

What to pay: Fruits and vegetables from markets are very cheap and people aren't prone to overcharge.
