Charms of This Small Town After Dark: @ Nite in Luang Namtha

by bkoon

I was in Luang Namtha on two occasions. I shall just briefly share with you on what I did and what you could possibly do at night.Despite the fact that like other small towns in Laos, there is not much vibrant nightlife other than, perhaps the capital city of Vientiane, I personally find myself enjoying the quietness and peacefulness of these places, especially at night. In Luang Namtha, things you could do when the sun sets are:- Herbal Massage (but not too late)- Chill out at 1 of the restaurants as you put down your thoughts of the day in your travel journal- Check out the fireflies which are everywhere- People watch- Watch TV at Panda Restaurant- Visiting the provision stores to stock up your snack supplies

This Place Sleeps Early: @ Nite in Huay Xai

by bkoon

When I was in Huay Xai, I noticed that this place sleeps early. Well, most places sleep early. The only thing you could do at Huay Xai is probably drinking BeerLao (many restaurants along the streets), especially during the hot season. If you were to walk along the main street, you will observe that family members of the local households sitting outside their houses, chatting among themselves, catching up with one another on the happenings of the day.Verdict : No vibrant nightlife.

Nightlife in Vientiane

by SirRichard

Vientiane is not really a paradise for night fans. After dusk the city is nearly deserted and the little (when existing) public lights don't really help at this. You can find a few restaurants that open till late and a disco here or there (in big hotels) but nothing else...

Never Found A Nightlife

by JRiel

There may be somewhat of a happening spot to hang out in at night, but I never got the chance to find it really. There are a few clubs or discos scattered throughout Vientiane, and some cool cafe's along the main street in Luang Phabang, but nothing like the hotspots in neighboring Bangkok.

Special Pizza Shops: Happy pizzas

These places are every where and can be very relaxing or very enjoyable. They have movies playing all day and night with lounge like tables and chairs. They have many special menus from special cakes to special teas on the menu and can make your movie be very enjoyable.

Karaoke

by Maximilian21

Despite the unofficial curfew time for bars and clubs there are some places which stay open till the wee hours. While coming home from a bar in Luang prabang we where invited to this amazing karaoke bar in town. I was bassically this massive hall with all these flourescent lights and was absolitely packed with locals. One by one the locals went up on stage and did their renditions of either a local folk song or western classic. It was sort of funny watching the spectacle because they take their Kareoke so seriously and only ever sing slow and sentimental songs. So i did the only proper thing and get up their to sing Michael Jacksons "Beat it" and they lapped it up. I pulled out the moonwalk and did a couple of kicks and it was as if all their christmases had came at once .It was crazy to see how the 200 people suddenly got up and started clapping ,some came around the stage to take...

Night clubs/ bars

by Maximilian21

The nightlife in Laos is very limited an in all honesty i was not too dissapointed. The Laotian government has set an unofficial curfew time of about 11 pm therefor most clubs and bars close at about this time. The governments reasoning is that they think that by closing early then it will be less likely that problems will be caused by late night shenanigans. Laos is a very peacefull country and perhaps they might be right. There was one bar which i went to a few times, called "Hive bar" in Luang Prabang. it was ok but didnt feel Laotian and all. I does have some good (but more expensive) drinks and chilled out "night in the playboy mansion like music". It caters for the travllers who want to feel like their in soho. No dress code

Viang Veng Sunsets: what only nature can bestow

by richiecdisc

Laos is not exactly known for its nightlife. Though there were some cool places to hang out in the capital of Vang Vieng, you had to be back in your hotel by 11:30 PM! Well, it is still a communist country. Viang Veng had some cool outdoor beergardens on the river. There were blankets on the ground and hammocks to lie in too. The best time to go was sunset, when you could meet up with fellow travelers and enjoy nature’s great display. Very casual attire, you are going to be lying on a blanket.

Lucky Bar: nightlife

by rob12c

This place is down by the river that stays open all night with good tunes. Everything closes at around 11pm but this place is the best place to go in town. It has a camp fire going in the middle and really good open atmosphere with many backpackers to talk to.It is pretty hard to find as you have to cross little wooden bridges and stuff but there are signs to show you the way in the dark down to the river.

Sleepy country

by xaver

To tell the truth I found Laos a very sleepy and relaxed country, in most places I visited, everything closes after 11 pm, the best night life spot I can reccommend is the sunset on the Mekong, I could spend a hour watching the sunset and the river, waiting for the dark!
