Plain Of Jars

by aeroarce

This is a misterious place. no body knows yet whay they exist, for what they made them. Some people think that they where cementeries but certainly no bones have been found except on one or two. People says that they where to keep food or drinks there but no evidence of that is clear, only a few taps have been discovered. Specialists are still trying to get any significate to all this human effort, but we have to wait untill anything is out.Around the plain you have a docen of sites full of jars, but only a few are reachable, visible and discovered. the land was devastated at the time of vietnam war so its not easy to get through unless you are accompanied. only a few sites has been cleared of booms and are ok to visit. This is a place not easy to reach by land unless you have all the time of the world. The easiest way to get there is getting a plane, you can do it from Vientiane or Luang...

Ban Xiang-Ay

It's called the jar makers village and it lies about 30 minutes from Luang Prabang. However, more than jars, people here produce the delicious Lao-Lao rice liqueur. The distillery is under the first hut on the right, at the entrance of the village.here you can find a cluster of huts and wooden houses, and a brick one: the pharmacy - although I did not see much that it could sell. There's also a school: a floor, a roof, a few benches and no walls or desks. The kids seemed very happy (and the teachers very bored)

Pak Ou village

by call_me_rhia

Pak Ou is a tiny village on the Mekong river, opposite the famous Pak Ou caves. There are about two dozen thattched-roofed houses raised off the ground, and about 50 villagers. Sadly there are also several stalls selling souvenirs - it's not too sure to whom, since there were no other tourists at the village, when I was there. Aside from this there was a huge fat turkey, the fattest I have ever seen, a little shop selling eggs and cigarettes, and an empty "restaurant" selling food to no one at all

Nam Ngum Dam

by Fudge

This dam along the way to Vang Vieng from Vientiane, is a good lunch stop, as it is quiet and refreshing to look at the water. With the building of this dam, electricity (through hydro electric power) is made available for the villages around the Nam Ngum river.

Pak Ou caves

by call_me_rhia

Pak Ou caves are two caves that are found inside the vertical limestone cliffs opposite Pak Ou village. The lower and smaller is called Tham Ting - and it's the most spectacular; the upper, all the way up endless stairs, is called Tham Phum. it's very dark and gloomy and holds the majority of statues. For a couple of thousand years they have been an important place of worship. At the beginning people used to worshipthe river spirit and gods, and when Buddhism spread into Laos they simply shifted god, filled the caves with buddha images and statues, and went on worshipping there. They caves are located 25 kms upriver from Luang Prabang. You can get there by boat, or by jumbo and small fishing boat.

Delicious Tomato Noodles in Vang Vieng

by coolbrian

Before we crossed a samll bamboo brige on our way to the next cave in Vang Vieng around noon, these two friendly and lovely Laotian ladies cooked delicious tomato noodles for us. So we had enough energy to keep on our cave-exploring tour in the afternoon. Noodles are the main food for you if you are on your bike tour in Vang Vieng. Like it or not, just enjoy it¡£

Just Make it, Your Own Record !!!

by coolbrian

If you are good at swimming, you may try to swim across the Mekong River in Luang Prangbang. The water flows not so strongly here but it is best to hire a boat to follow you. Once you are exhausted, you may have a rest by holding the edge of the boat. It is much easier to swim from the east to the west than from the west to the east. We made it. You can do that too.It is a lifetime memory...

This lovely dog had dinner with us when we firstly got to Luang Prabang and had our dinner in an open bar near the Mekong River. He was so cute. And he also liked drinking Beer Lao and Lao Lao and enjoying the carefree time in this quiet town . I miss you baby!!! If you guys go to Luang Prabang, please don't forget help me say hello to him :-)

Two Bomb Remains Left in the War

by coolbrian

Two bomb remains left in the war, one big and the other small, standing straight under a small tree trimmed with beautiful flowers, seems to be telling people not to forget the pains so many innocent poeple have suffered during the hard and tuburlent time. Time will never heal the pains. The photo was taken just in front of Sepon town of Southern Laos when our bus stopped to take passengers. Wish for world peace...

When staying in a city like Luang Prabang or Vientiane, just take your way outside of its centre to the country side where you see people living their simple but happy way. Its not so crowded by cars and motorcycles. Most of them are alway smiling at you but they are very shy. Children sometimes whant to make conversations to you, even if they don't speak one single word...If you see a 'Wat' or a 'Stupa' just sit down and take a look at the Monks and the people around you, how they live, what they do and just enjoy your life...
