if you are seeking some herbal relaxation ask the tobacco sellers in the luangprabang market. they may just be able to help, alternately stagger round the streets drunk at night and ask the first local who offers to sell you whatever your lungs desire. expect to pay 3-400 baht for some fairly average gear, its supposed to be illegal but i didn't find it too hard to find.......

The awful busride between Savannakhet and Dong Ha ( Vietnam ). Definately not recommended - but still one of the events I remember best. Really uncomfortable, bumpy, dusty - far worse than all the other rides put together. In addition we had a break down in the middle of nowhere 5 hours after leaving Savannakhet. The only place to get spare parts was in Savannakhet which made a total delay of over 10 hours on a ride that allready was meant to be 12 h long!!!!

The great thing about travelling independently is the people you get to see and meet along your jounrey. We met some wonderfully friendly people throughout Laos.

Dont miss Vang Vieng

Between Luang Prabang and Veintainne is the best place in Laos, in my opinion, where you can relax, enjoy local culture, go caving or tubing, and most of all, enjoy the incredible scenery.

small villages

by kotaro

There are many small villages all over Laos. From Luang Probang, you can reach them by tuk tuk, or by boat. Many times I was the only foriegner in these villages.
