Nazim Indian Restaurant: If you're fond of Indian Food

by coolbrian

After one day's hard bike tour around Vang Vieng, enjoying yourself in this restaurant of real Indian atmosphere is quite easygoing. Chicken Brani: curry rice with steamed chicken and egg, so tasty.Rudi: a kind of round roasted cake, eaten with curry spice, good flavour.

many: Appreciate what is on your plate (or in your bowl)

by riproy

Appreciate the food - all the fresh food is grown domestically and not with the type of mechanization that western countries or almost any other country knows. It is done by hand. Even the kids work hard here. These were hauling bushels of tomatos from boats in the Mekong up steep embankments to the spot where they would then be moved overland to Vientiane. If you aren't into heaving produce on your shoulders, visit Talad Saow (the Saturday market - it is open all week) in Vientiane. Similar to Chatuchak in that it seems like a big farmer's market. Lots of great deals on local cloth. If you are a sharp bargainer, you can walk away with some good deals. Generally you can get what you want at half the original asking price, sometimes less, but you have to be patient. Keep smiling, don't lose your cool, walk away and come back if you have to. And learn a bit of the lingo. A bit of Thai will...

If you make it to Phonsali...

by ramblinsarah

If you make it to Phonsali (and i reccomend you do), there is a great no-name restaurant accross the street from the Phongali Hotel.Nothing obviously special - typically lao place wich os dark inside but open in the front. nice place to sit and watch the world go by. Buffalo meat (yes, buffalo meat) with garlic and tomatoes. unbelievably good.

A restaurant with pigs,...

by l_joo

A restaurant with pigs, chickens and kids runing around, after having our lunch at the Cafe, I go for toilet, everywhere is toilet, so I guess that's the biggest toilet in the whole world. How local Loas people eating? they have some dishes on the table with one leg on the chair, one hand holding rice with plate, just rice. Too hard for me to describe but very interesting.

i wish that i could remember the name but there is a great indian restaurant on the main street facing the water in Vientienne. I ate with about seven other people and every shared their dishes. I must say each dish was delicious and their Nan and nan with garlic were both amazing.

The Organic Farm Café In Vang Viang. They serve you delicous food (many vegetarian dishes). Everything on your plate is from the Organic Farm. The Organic Farm in Vang Viang is a project of local people (especially women) and volunteers from around the world to promote organic farming and te renew the traditional silk industry in Laos. So you're not just having a good meal, you're also supporting a local initiative! You can also buy mulberry tea (yummy and healthy), mulberry wine, sundried fruits. If you visit the Organic Farm, you can buy silk scarves (very beautiful, I bought two). Everything is delicious, but their speciality are deep fried mulberry leaves, mulberry pancakes and mulberry shake.Every time we visited the restaurant, we got a free cup of mulberry tea. The mulberry leave is the main food of the silk worms.

Lamach in Luang Prabang. This cosy little restaurant is owned by a mother and her daughters. We ate there practically everyday: the food was delicious (good choice of vegetarian dishes)and the people so nice. Cosy and the service is so good, you get the feeling you're a friend of the family rather than a costumer... For me as a vegetarian, the menu was a feast. Everything I've tried was good, but I liked vegetarian spring rolls and the Lap tofu (spicy tofu salad) very much. Also: probably the best fruitshakes in town!!!

Anywhere and everywhere that sells BEER LAO.BEER LAO is 51 % owned by Thailand and it is interesting that it is not sold in Thailand. WHY? It seems to be that Thailand doesn't want to admit that little Lao does something better than them. And HOW! BEER LAO.

Here we are (Kamna, Rebecca, Shaz and myself) at our 'local' in Luang Prabang. I wish I could tell you the name of the place but I can't say that I ever knew! Even so, this table was not really part of their regular dining area, but when we asked to sit here, they were very kind with bringing down all necessities - the table was on a rickety platform hanging over the Mekong. It was a great vantage point from which to watch the sunset, and also got very dark and quiet afterwards. We could just sit back and enjoy some refreshment with a chorus of geckos and rat rustlings in the background. I loved it! We spent every evening here and at the end, the friendly owners just brought down our beers without us even asking. It was fantastic! Beer Lao!!
