    A typical lane in Taipa
    by sailor_p
I have the opportunity to visit Taipa Village on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and short walking tour. The village is filled with Chinese shophouses, Portuguese-style offices and small temples. The lanes are lined with hanging flower baskets and old-fashioned street lamps. This make it an appealing place for an afternoon stroll. There are also a number of restaurants along the Rua da Cunha (known as Food Street) where you can sample the authentic Portuguese and Macanese food.

  • Hac Sa Beach - a family destination! - Concelho de Macau
Hac Sa Beach - a family
    destination!
    by sailor_p
Coloane is Macau's countryside, wigh green hills and valleys, traditional villages and beach-lined bays. This is a place for families to have a good day out!

The Hac Sa Beach is located on the eastern side of Coloane. On Sundays, you will see locals and foreigners packing coaches arriving at the beach. It is a favourite destination for many people who want to have a good day out and enjoy the breeze. It is an ideal location for BBQ and enjoy the wide variety of BBQ items sold by the vendors along the beach.

"Hac Sa" literally means "black sand". The water is clean although it appears black because of silt from the Pearl River. Other water sports activities are also available. Remember to grab your swimming gear and have a fun day out!

    Take buses 15, 21A, 25, 26A

The Taipa Houses-Museum was built in 1921, which had been the residences for high ranking Macanese families. In the 80s, the Macao Government Tourist Office bought and recovered these beautiful units and remodelled them. The houses were transformed into museums and they were renamed as "Macanese House", "House of Islands", "House of the Portugal Regions", "Exhibtion Gallery" and "House for Reception".

It is MOP5.00/adult for admission. It is opened from 10am - 6pm daily (but closed on Mondays). Note that admission is free on Sundays! So, why wait? Plan a Sunday trip to Taipa and visit these lovely colonial houses!

The islands of Taipa and Coloane are Macau's traditional countryside, where beautiful beaches, peaceful villages and lush nature sites are located. Once considered remote from the city, the islands are well-linked by two bridges and a causeway to the mainland. There are frequent buses and taxis to Taipa and Coloane from Macau's downtown and ferry terminal areas.

I would recommend everyone to visit these two islands if you have time in Macau. The experience is totally different from what you have on the mainland.

Praia Avenue is one of the most emblematic site in Taipa. The iconic green-and-white houses were found along this lane, located next to a beautiful pond. On a typical Sunday afternoon, you will see local families having a good day out here while the tourists explore the beautiful houses of Taipa. These houses were once occupied by high-ranking officials from Macau. Do take time off to visit Praia Avenue and stroll along the broad walkway. It's a bliss doing that!

Gongbei is a Shopping Heaven located across the borders between Macau and China.

You can buy and shop for almost anything in this underground shopping mall.

This will be the best place to be when it is a rainy day in Macau.

Cheap services like manicure & pedicure (RMB30), massages, hairwash & haircut (RMB30).

This is a shopping heaven for the ladies as there are many shops selling clothings, shoes, bags, costmetics, accessories etc.

There are many restaurants where you could have your meals.

Follow the link to know how to cross the border to get to Gongbei.

    Chinoy Express Internet Cafe

  • Chinoy Express is owned by a Filipino couple. It is a popular internet cafe in Macau with two branches. The main one is located at Rua de Alfandefa No 120 R/C. From my experience this place is a bit tricky to find. You have to enter a few narrow alleys to get here. Better ask the hotel concierge to write the address in Chinese for you.

The other one is a bit easier to find...sorry I don't have the exact address. Let me give you the direction instead. Take the street between the Esprit Shop and Leal Senado...go straight up and at the far end (left side) you'll find a small building. You'll find Chinoy Express at the 2nd floor.

Here you can rent a computer by the hour, transfer your photos from memory cards to CDs. They offer secretarial services such as encoding and facsimile service. And also travel services such as Visa application for China.

When you get tired of placing bets in the casino, you may want to try your hand at the dog races. This is a popular spot for Chinese tourists, who arrive in large groups. The dogs only race on certain days (including Monday), in the evenings.

Entry into the canidrome is charged at MOP20.

    The canidrome is at Avenida do Almirante Lacerda and is serviced by buses 1A, 3, 5, 7, 9, 9A, 16, 23, 25 & 34.

  • if you arrive by ferry, do take note that almost all major hotels f\provide transportation to their respective hotels outside the terminal. It is directly on the left hand side of the entrance and you;ll see a lot of different small size buses waiting for check in guest. This would certainly helps you get to your hotel faster and its free of charge (even if you haven't confirm your stay there)

Many of us admire the facade of the ruins but failed to see what's behind it. I posted a picture of it for the benefit of those who are as curious as I am :0)

Nothing fancy eh? Just cement and stairs for those photo opportunities!
