Chi Mei Mun Uk: reasonably priced breakfast set meals

by chatterley

This eatery is just opposite our hotel (Holiday Inn), so we came here a couple of times for breakfast. Their breakfast set meals range from 15 MOP to 20 MOP, which is pretty reasonable, by Macau standards. The sets come with beverage (hot tea or coffee). We've tried the omelette+toast+ham set, the cheeseburger set, as well as the beef macaroni set.

Yee Shun Milk Company: Milk Pudding

by chatterley

Following the tips of fellow VTers, we searched for this eatery and its famous milk pudding. This shop was located on Senado Square. We ordered the milk puddings and pork chop buns. The milk puddings were deliciously creamy and thick. Each pudding costs 15 MOP. The milk pudding, of course! The pork chop bun is a bit of a let-down though, the pork chop was a tad too dry.

A-Ma Temple Restaurant: Chinese / Thai food at reasonable prices

by chatterley

As A Lorcha was closed on our first visit, we had our dinner here instead (this eatery is also recommended in one of my foodie guidebooks on Macau). Not sure of the English name of this restaurant, but its Chinese name is 'Ma Ge Can Ting', and 'Ma Ge' means A-Ma Temple. We ordered oyster omelette, stir-fried vegetables, stir-fried clams, chicken kebab, rice and dessert. The clams were fresh and very tasty. We had a very filling dinner and the bill was reasonable, just under 200 MOP. The stir-fried clams - a hint of spiciness (chilli added) is good!

A Lorcha Restaurant: Great Portugese food!

by chatterley

We went there on Tuesday evening, not knowing that the restaurant's closed every Tuesday! Determined to try the food at this establishment which was highly recommended by friends and guidebooks, we visited the place again the next day for lunch. Even though it was a weekday, it packed a crowd, and were we glad that we managed to get a table! We ordered a Portugese vegetable soup (that was totally divine), balcauha (cod fish) in mashed potato and fried fillets of balcauha with rice. Verdict: It was the best meal I've had in Macau. The portion is huge, but we tried our very best to finish everything (it is a sin to waste good food!).

Dumbo Cafe: Ignore the elephant...

by miscen

This restaurant is hard to miss...and you shouldn't! Situated at the corner of Rua do Regedor Loja and R/C Hei LoiTang Kong Cheon, Dumbo Restaurant is very easy to find and is well-worth the trip to Old Taipa Village. Don't be thrown off by the incongruity of the Disney-like mascot embalzoned on the restaurant's signboard and the fact that it serves Portuguese food or should I say "Macanese"? Note that while in Macau, I had overdosed on chinese food so the food at Dumbo was a very refreshing change from the oriental fare we had been living on for the last week. Everything we tried was great but special favorites were the Cod Cakes and the Grilled Spare ribs. Plus, for those not so nimble with the chopsticks...Dumbo's place settings come with (..gasp!) forks and knives!

A Lorcha: Good bet for portoguese culinary tradition

by gdilieto

A Lorcha is a good place to have a taste of Portoguese influence in Macau traditional cuisine. It's a place crowded and informal, with a traditional not-too-fancy menu, good food and a regular bill. Many concierges will direct you here if you ask for recommendation for a simple, good portoguese restaurant. In the picture my dinner as sample of the menu: codfish cake, grilled fish with potato and salad and a glass of white wine. The restaurant is located close to the A-Ma temple, a little out of hand from the city centre and you will need a taxi to get to and return from the restaurant. All in all, a good bet to taste Portoguese culinary tradition in Macau.

The smell and taste are really good.Lots of bakery are selling this yummy pastry along the small street leading to Ruin's of St. Paul. Just follow the smell :-)One piece costs 6MOP.

Clube Militar de Macau: Classy, old-fashioned atmosphere

by gdilieto

Guide books as well as the concierge at your hotel will direct you to the Clube Militar de Macau for a taste of Macau culinary tradition in an upscale, classy environment. Indeed the restaurant, housed in an old colonial building (see picture) and part of the Macau Militar Club, has a pleasant, classy though old-fashioned atmosphere. Food is from the Portoguese tradition. I had a seafood soup and "bacalau" (salted codfish) and I was satisfied. The restaurant is supposed to have one of Macau's best selections of wines but I didn't check it out. All in all, a pleasent dining experience.
