various pastelarias (cake shops): Goodies of Macau

by myspices

Walk around the streets of Macau, you will find many tiny outlets of pastelarias (cake shops) selling you a variety of tit-bits, sweets, cookies, tarts, nuts and a range of flavoured meat floss. Vendors at these little shops are very generous - as you walk pass their shops they will hand you samples of their goodies for you to taste. Don't be shy - take a piece and you are not obliged to buy them. Macau's specialties are the Portuguese tarts and the almond cookies - you have to taste them ! sunday flea market in taipa island: flea market in taipa

by zephyrgurl108

Planning to take home souvenirs from Macau, drop by the Sunday flea market in Taipa Island for some bargains. Go to the Village Centre between Bombeiros Square and Camões Square, an area that was widely improved while preserving its traditional architectural style and buy whatever you like - from small figurines of the Macau Tower to fridge magnets of Macau's street signs to t-shirts and what have you's. Delicacies, toys and traditional crafts are also available. Time: Every Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Open on Public Holidays) Small knick knacks cost from 50 to 100. about 300 patacas is fine

Shops near Senado Square: Try it before you buy it!

by idy

As visitors make their way along the cobbled streets from Senado Square to Saint Paul's ruins, they will be approached by people from the shops lining the streets offering free samples of their food products, such as freshly baked almond cookies, seaweed rolls or barbequed pork. This is a great opportunity for visitors to try out some of the local products, which also make good souvenirs for the folks back home. It is a good way of making sure you buy something you like, or that you think the recipient will enjoy. Bakeries sell a large variety of cookies and biscuits, all nicely packaged. They also sell food items like barbequed pork and meat floss. Visitors may also want to have a go at the Portugese egg tarts, which were all the rage in the region some time back.

largo do senado shops: feel of HK shopping in macau

by zephyrgurl108

after you get wowed at the old colonial buildings on largo do senado square, you will get more oohs and aahs as you move towards the street leading into the shops - all familiar HK shops are there : giordano, ebase, bossini, hang ten, adidas and nike shops, etc. so for shopaholics, this is good news. restaurants and cafes abound too from starbucks to mcdonalds. price is not really cheaper than HK so prepare some money about $500 or more

Bonus is they will let you take some bite, (or a lot...) so you know what flavor you like, to purchase..This Pastelaria got one branch in Taipa (Rua Do Cunha) and 5 more in central Macau.. Peanut Candy, different variety buy a lot, it really taste yummy and chewy.. Its also a nice souvenir to friends as its only made in Macau, and its not that expensive, One small pack (vacuum sealed) is 15 patacas and regular packs is 25 patacas.
