Senado Square is a rendezvous or a meeting place both for locals and tourists because of its strategic location. The floor is made up of black and white cobble stone pattterns that make it so unique and chique! The buildings around it are so attractive not only because of its intricate designs but moreso because of the unique European (Portuguese) bright colors especially at night. The place is still popular venue for special events, expositions, trade and shows. Shops, restaurants and cafes are within the area. This serves as the central place for Macau as it is adjacent to major tourist spots and historical places.

Portas do Cerco, or Barrier Gate, is situated in the northernmost part of Macau. Erected in 1870, the stone gate was the marking point for the border between Macau and China. A quotation from Portugal's celebrated poet Lu?s Vaz de Cam?es was inscribed at the top of the gate: "Honour your country, for your country is watching you." Before the handover, the forbidden land could only be glimpsed through the gate. Today, going from Hac-Sa village of Macau to the Zhuhai and Zhongshan provinces of China is a daily walk for thousands of visitors. Monte Fort, or the Fortress of S?o Paulo, was built in the early 1600s. Even though the cannons in the fort had a wide range of fire, from the harbours to the Chinese border, they were used only once in 1622 against the Dutch invasion. The fort was abandoned in the 1870s. Today, Monte Fort houses a small museum. From its vantage point, visitors can see most of Macau and the Zhongshan District of mainland China. Ruinas de São Paulo is what's left of the magnificent St. Paul Cathedral. After being built in 1602 by the Jesuits, the church's imposing stone façade was intricately carved in 1620 by Japanese monks. At that point, the Cathedral became the largest and most important Catholic church in Asia. A fire in 1835 destroyed the body of the church, leaving behind only the façade. The museum and crypts were added in the 1990s. It is certainly worth the effort of climbing up 66 stone steps to the façade just to see the carvings. It is especially impressive at night, when the ruin is splendidly lit up. Standing in Lotus Square is a large sculpture of a Lotus Flower, which was presented by the State Council of China in 1999, marking the return of sovereignty of Macau. The stulpture is about 6m high, made of Gilded Bronze and is about 6.5 tons. The lotus flower in full bloom symbolizes everlasting prosperity of Macau. I would recomment seeing this, as it does not take up much time and its very nice to look at. Leave a Comment

Guia Fortress was built in 1637, the highest point in Macau. It was designed to defend Macau from attacks from the sea, but because of its position overlooking the entire city, it was turned to be an observation post. You can find a chapel within the area dedicated to Our Lady Of Guia. Today, the most prominent feature in the hill is the lighthouse which was built during 18th century..the oldest in the China coast. Great View from the top but a little bit tiring going up and down the hill.
