Ruins of St Paul's

by klj&a

The church was built in 1580 and the first western-styled in the Far East. A fire destroyed this church in 1835 leaving only the facade. Because only the facade is left and you can see right through it and the fact that it's at the top of a hill and provides a backdrop of the sky really provides an unusual and distinct view that I've not seen before with other monuments. This is definitely a popular destination in Macau as you can see from the crowd. There is a small museum in the back of the facade that is free and open from 9am to 6pm. You can also walk up a staircase in the back of the facade to get a view from the middle of the facade. The bronze statue you see in the foreground of the man being presented a lotus by the woman symbolizes friendship between Portugal and China.

Portugese influence is evident in Macau's urban center called the Leal Senado Square. Wave-patterned mosaic shells cover the pavement of the square. Commercial stores, restaurants and souvenir shops abound the square and side streets linking to it.

This is what left from Catedral St Paul's, after fire destroyed the building. It is 'only ' a wall but this should be landmark no. 1 to visit in Macau. It always packed. This place is located near Senado Square, and walking from Senado Square to St Paul Ruin is always be my favorite. Along the narrow street there are many food stalls and snacks vandor, they offer free tester of many kind of jerked meat & almond cookies. So yummy..

St. Augustine's church

by malakingtete

May you be a catholic or not, this church is worth visiting. by just looking at it, you will wonder how the facade of the church was saved from the erosion of the land that gradually sunk the rest of the church. We only stayed there for a while though because we went there at night. It would have been nice going back there again at daytime however we didn't have time anymore since our flight back to Manila would be on the following day of our visit. Will have to go back to see it again! Cool!

Venetian Hotel

by malakingtete

Visiting Venetian Hotel should be the first on things to do in Macau. The hotel has turned to be macau's tourist spot after it was built. Guest or not, the place is open for public and you can go inside the hotel without any hassles. The architecture, amenities, extravagance & it's massive size is a treat for anybody who sees it! Being there is really like being in Venice, Italy as my best friend tol me and nobody should miss it for the world. Experiencing Venice in Asia is definitely cheaper, closer & convenient for an asian like me. hi hi hi

Starting in the 19th century, the Portuguese constructed many European-style buildings in this area and, with the banyans along the shore, it became one of the most beautiful shorelines in Southeast Asia, attracting many tourists. Maritime Museum & A-Ma Temple can be found in this square.

MGM Grand Macau hotel resort is perfectly located on a prime waterfront site in Macau’s central burgeoning Nam Van district. The main building is separated into three distinct segments with wavy, shimmering glass in different colors. Attention to detail and exquisitely stylish design means that the hotel is just as impressive on the inside. Upon entering the lobby, you are just like inside a huge art gallery and immediately greeted by the large ceiling-hung glass sculpture.
