Getting around in Macau

by RovingWyvern

Buses - In Macau, visitors can find bus servies in the city as well as in the islands. Visitors can look for the destinations itineraries and stops in the info panels located at each bus stop. Between Macau and Taipa, visitors can catch buses 11, 22,28A, 33, 34 and airport bus AP1. Buses 15, 21, 21A, 25, 26 and 26A connect Macau, Taipa, and Coloane. Inside the Macau peninsula ther is only 1 fare (MOP$2.5), regardless of distrance and destination. Travelling to Taipa and Macau International Airpor, the bus fare is MOP$3.3 and if the destination is Coloane Village, it costs MOP$4. To Hac Sa will be MOP$5. For enquiries, call 271122 or 850060.Taxis - The charge is MOP$10 for flagfall. Apart from normal taxis (black with cream colour roof), there is also radio taxi service (Enquiry: 519519). Air Macau

by mke1963

Air Macau is a small airline, operating primarily between Macau and mainland Chinese cities and to cities in Taiwan. It operates new Airbus A319, A320 and A321 aircraft. Economy felt cramped, especially in a middle seat. The cabins are bright, modern and cheerful, and the crew were friendly and courteous. However, I was concerned on both my flights over safety procedures. On my inbound flight (NX001, 26-08-2004) an elderly man got into an argument and started to wander up and down the aisle as the plane was on final approach. It took ages (at least 30 seconds) for the crew to react, and even then they tried to reason with him rather than force him into the seat. The landing continued with three people standing in the aisle - a significant risk for anyone in front of them in the event of a heavy landing. On the second flight (NX002, 29-08-2004), the emergency door locking pins remained...

The world's quietest airport

by mke1963

Macau International Airport is one of the quietest and easiest airports to use. No queues anywhere, in and out in a matter of minutes. Many more passengers transfer than actually start or finishe here: this is the main way people from Taiwan get to and from mainland China. However, it is not well equipped for the traveller. You can buy Cartier watches, Vertu luxury cellphones and Mont Blanc pens, but not a pencil, AA batteries or even a daily newspaper (in any language). There are several coffee shops and restaurants, and the view out over the sea is unusual: the airport is built on reclaimed land, and the runway is out at sea like an aircraft carrier. Because of its exposed location, it is particularly subject to weather delays. My flight back to Beijing was delayed two hours "because of the weather"; in fact, the delay was that they were waiting for incoming flights from Taiwan for all...
