    Remeber to take your
    passport.

This is not a danger or a warning, just more of a reminder.
When thinking of travelling to Macau, whether it be by Ferry or Plane, remember to take your passport as they do check it.
I travelled by Ferry to Macau from Hong Kong, and I did not know I would need my passport until I was told that you do.
Upon leaving Hong Kong you go through immigration and also upon entering Macau.
Same procedure applies when leaving, you will have to show your passport on both sides, but look on the bright side, you will get a Macau stamp in your passport, and that already is quite cool.

Please also ensure that you have applied for a visa if you are from one of the countries who require a visa to visit Macau.

    Visiting Zhuhai, China from Macau

  • The Barrier Gate - Concelho de Macau
    The Barrier Gate
    by Cielo_Algaeed
Visiting Zhuhai, China from Macau can be disappointing.Well, it depends on your expectations but from my personal experienced the first time (and the last time) i was there for a whole day visit it was a total chaos. From the barrier gate to and from Macau...to and from the immigration counters! oh my! It was like everyone was running away from the lava of a volcano!

No exaggeration but really it was almost like that..as if people were in panic.

Everyone wants to clear the immigration, everyone wants to fall in line with a shorter queue. (as if there was)

Anyway, visa is required for those who plan to visit Zhuhai China even for a whole day visit. Make sure to apply your visa ahead of time or you can apply it once you are in Macau but your application has to be made atleast 3 days prior to your intend visit.

    Warning:
Beware of those locals who travel and clear the immigration counter with big boxes, strollers etc. They will really knocked you off if you will try to block their way.

As for my experienced, i didnt enjoy so much shopping in Zhuhai. Nothing special and they offer almost the same thing.

This incidents usually happen during weekends or holidays.

Patacas - Cannot be used outside Macau

  • In Macau, pataca's or MOP is the local currency.

HK dollar is well accepted on local establishment, (shopping or eating). But change some bills to patacas to pay for buses.

There is a money changer inside the Macau Ferry Terminal (once you are out of customs). The exchange rate is acceptable.

For US dollar bills, small denominations, ( 20's, anything less than 100) they will accept it and change to patacas.

Its important to remember this, as the money changers near St Paul and Senado will only change if your money is 100 US dollars or more .

I was there on a weekend, and banks are closed.

Also it is important to limit the amount of money that you will change to patacas. As once outside Macau, the MOP cannot be used even in HK Island.

If travelling with seniors, make sure you have checked the attractions thoroughly. Choose an activity which do not require much physical exertion like this one. Asthma and rheumatism's worst enemy....flights of stairs!

Places you might want to miss and some alternative route:
    - The small tunnel-like room at the fortress (shown at the photo). Very few displays here. Instead, visit the beautiful and very informative Museo de Macao.
    - The winding road going to the Guia Lighthouse. Okay so this is not a stair but it will also require you plenty of energy to get to the top. Instead of taking this route, ride the cable car going up.

Swaying Cable Car in Guia Hill

Take proper precautions when taking the cable car in Guia Hill. Unlike other cable cars, the ones available here are swaying and moving a bit faster than I expected. Be extra careful when travelling with seniors, my mother has bad knees and had difficulty getting inside the car.

  • Guys will be waiting for unsuspecting tourists as they come off the ferries in the terminal. They will offer taxis but their charges are far higher than the real cabs. Just go outside to the rank. They are very cheap.

  • Macau if I may be rude is a island of Sins. Even though there are historical landmarks scattered around and a interesting golf course, there hardly anything worth visiting unless you are into those endless rows of Spa and Bath House. In another words, hookers joints.

The hookers can tell you are foreign and they hang around the hotels, Casino and almost everywhere.

They are like ugly flies going after every single piece of meat they can find

Keep an eye your personal belongings.

  • Watch your belongings at all time. I was travelling with this guy from UK who went to a toilet to take a pee and left his camera on the toilet table behind him. In a few seconds it was gone together with all the precious photos he has taken of HK for the past weeks.

Watch your belongings as their are quite a number of pickpockets and opportunists hanging around waiting to take advantage of unsuspecting tourists.

Not that well-known, and sorry for addition of this topic, though it is a need!

On the small island of Coloana, next to Macau International Airport, you'll see the biggest Diesel engine you've ever seen. During the period of 1987 - 1996 there were Diesel engine planted with a immense capacity ...

This one causes the worst pollution of Asia, and the Diesel engine made Coloane Island the world's number one Diesel engine plant. Bizar thing of minor importance; you see the famous A-MA Statue on the hill behind hearing the sound of the landing and leaving airplanes. You've heard of Google Earth? Find the combination of
    22*.18'.15.39 N - 113*.34'.49.04 E
And see for yourself the big smoke coming from the Diesel engine ...

    :o(((

    almond cookie
    by flyer_e901
Be careful when you're trying out almond cookie samples. One lady had just baked them and was handing them out to shoppers on the street. It was nice & warm. So when I took a bite, the cookies crumbled and burned my throat as it went down. Ouch! I wasn't alone. 6 other "victims" were choking and fanning their mouths. My friend thought it was funny and he snapped a photo of me.
