Seafaring decor, Macanese seafood, which is like a cross between the cuisines of Macau and Portugal. And the best part - you are expected to dig in, really enjoy your food and make a mess. Instead of a napkin your table setting includes an apron to wear while you wrestle with your crab or whatever. We loved the aprons so much we bought one each for ourselves and a couple for gifts. The whole experience was great. In fact, we went back the next day!

I'm sorry I can't remember exactly the road to this place but you'd need to walk into one of those small lanes in Senado Square. It is quite hidden.I remember that it is behind the Watson's and Osim store. I stumbled upon this restaurant when I approached the attendant at Osim and asked her where do they have authentic Macao food and she referred me to this Paolao restaurant, she said it was quite popular and the food is good.Nice ambience too!But she didn't tell me the prices are exorbitant! My seafood rice cost me HKD 176!In total, our bill came up to HKD/CNY/MP 1050! Wow. I regret not asking the waiter for the house specialty coz he said it is the African chicken. Darn!

Excellent Japanese restaurant in the Fisherman's wharf complex. Tasty beef with udon noodles for me and vegetable tempura for Mrs B, several other vegetarian choices too. Food not to be faulted in a friendly and well priced restaurant, Bonio recommends.

Macao was once a crossing point of trade between the East and the West. So also in food, we find mixture of various cultures.Macanese cuisine is very unique.The famous African Chicken is spicy grilled chicken with coconut flavor.Crab stewed in Curry Sauce is one of the typical Macanese dish.You can also enjoy grilled sardine (Sardine Salad) here.The atmosphere of this restaurant is a little stately, but you can be relaxed. Espaco Lisboa is in Coloane Island. A taxi will take you from Senado to the island in about 20 minutes. This restaurant is located in a very rustic, quiet area. You can walk to Saint Francis Zavier Chapel in a few minutes.Here they serve standard Portuguese dish such as grilled sardine, codfish croquette, roasted chicken. They also serve uncured ham. What makes us so pleasant is the waiters and the waitresses working there. They are very friendly and nice. ( They said they came from the Philippines.) Grilled Sardine The sardines are very big and very well grilled.Seafood Rice The Seafood Rice they serve here is cooked with crab soup, which makes the dish very thick and special. You can of course enjoy the crab meat.Desserts All the desserts are very delicious. So you must be careful not to be full before desserts.

O-santos is a small local restaurant that serves very delicious Portuguese dish. Many local people gather here and enjoy talking with the restaurant owner over wine and seafood rice. The atmosphere is very friendly and you will feel as if you were at home. Seafood RiceThis is a dish like Italian risotto. Rice, codfish, octopus, shrimp, clams are stewed in an earthenware pot. This is unbelievably delicious! This goes with white wine very well.We shared one pot of seafood rice with three people, but every local man ate whole pot of it by himself. I am sorry this dish was so delicious that I forgot to take the picture of it.

This high-ceilinged restaurant is the only Latin restaurant in all of Macau It is a Fusion of Spanish, Portugese and Macanese Cooking. Many Portugese foods are similar to spanish cooking as I have noticed here since I am familiar of spanish cooking since The Philippines was colonized by spain for more than 300 years and many filipino dishes are copied from spanish ones. Try the Natas, a delicious egg-tart in a light, flaky pastry shell.The egg-tart, while big in HK as well, is special to Macau because of the ‘splash’ of coconut added to the typical ingredients of egg, egg yolk, milk, and sugar all baked in a light, flaky crust. For an extra-special affect, they also add some crystallized sugar to the top, something like what you would find on crème brulee. Cafe Nata is famous for their version of the nata. It was amazing and cheap, making the food a definite highlight of our Macau trip.

This place is also one of my favorites for eating noodles. It opens very early in the morning and it is always full of people. I usually get the noodles and eat them at office as my breakfast.Warning: the place is small, if it doesn’t bother you, you might have to share a table with somebody else.
