Lotus Bauhinia

by solopes

Standing in Lotus Square next to the Forum, the large sculpture of "Lotus Flower In Full Bloom" presented by the State Council of China in 1999, marks the return of sovereignty of Macau. The sculpture, made of gilded bronze and weighting 6.5 tons, is 6 meters high and the diameter of the flower is 3.6 meters at maximum. The major part is composed of a stem, petals and pistil, with a total of 16 components. The base of the flower consists of 23 pieces of red granite. The lotus flower, which is in full bloom, symbolizes the everlasting prosperity of Macau. There are three layers of red granite at the base, which are in the shape of lotus leaves, signifying the Macau Peninsula, Taipa Island and Coloane Island.

One of the best examples of Portuguese colonial architecture, the old St. Raphael hospital is now one of the biggest Portuguese diplomatic representations in the world. Its actual look comes from a reconstruction in 1939.

The Ruins of St Paul's

by Jim_Eliason

This monument is the most recognizable icon of Macua. The church built in the 17th century this was once considered the greatest christian church in Asia. The structure burnt down in 1835, leavign the facade you see today.Although the site has its charm, its hard to understand how this and not some of the existing very ornate churches like St Dominic's did not become the symbol of the city.

Macau Cathedral

Considerable less ornate than most of Macua's churches this largest of the churches is known for its stained glass windows. The bishop's house next door is in typical Colonial style and outshines the church it stands next to.

One day tour of Macao--some ideas

by seagypsy

Hi Guo Mei Xin,Instead of putting your new itinerary inside your original post, I think you might receive more answers if you post a completely new one because otherwise, when people are replying, the reply screen/page does not show the revised itinerary and they need to open up a second virtual tourist page/screen to use when referring to your revised itinerary. As it is right now, I've got two screens/pages open because I'm not going to remember your new or revised itinerary.Anyways, there's no need to visit the Macau Tower in the evening unless you're going up the tower for a view which is quite expensive. I woudl skip it.Since Macau is gearing up for the Macau Grand Prixe, it might be fun to stop in at the museum. But I would recommend a visit to the St Paul's ruins which is the iconic image of Macau. It's the remaining facade of St Paul and if you want a photo that's easily...
