City Buses

by bhemak

The buses are easy to use. Map are available in English. Buses signs are in Cantonese and Portugese, so the Portugese is easy enough to read. The buses came regulary and were comfortable. I got as far as Taipa on the buses with no problem.

Ferry from Hong Kong

by Rodan44

We were able to do a daytrip to Macau from Hong Kong by taking a high-speed ferry. Ferries depart from either the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal, Sheung Wan, on Hong Kong island or from China Ferry Terminal, Tsimshatsui, in Kowloon. Ferries are run by either TurboJET or First Ferry, the trip takes about 45 minutes each way, and they run very frequently almost 24 hours a day (although late at night the ferries back to Hong Kong only stop at Hong Kong island and not Kowloon). The one-way economy class ticket prices are HK$141 on weekday daytime, HK$153 on weekend daytime, and HK$175 for night service. You will need to go through immigration in both Kong Kong and Macau, but the process is fairly quick.

Coming from Hong Kong

by kevarms

If you are planning on spending a day or two in Macau it's a good idea to book your accomodation at the Shun Tak Centre in Hong Kong. That's in the same building as the Macau Ferry TerminalI got a great price for the Hotel Lisboa. You can book your ferry ticket at the same time.Nearest MTR station is Sheung Wan. It's also possible to take a ferry to Macau from Kowloon at the China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, although I believe ferries are less frequent from here.

Taxi

by Ewingjr98

Taxis in Macau are plentiful and relatively cheap. The initial fare in city taxis is only 10 Macau Pataca or about US$1.25 (compared to 16 in Hong Kong, US$2.00). This initial fare is enough to get you between close points such as the ferry terminal and Guia Fort. In my opinion, you can't beat the taxis in Macau because they are low-priced and because the major sites are just a little too far apart to walk between them comfortably.

Ferry between Hong Kong and Macau

by Ewingjr98

The ferry is probably the best method of transportation between Macau and Hong Kong. You can board the ferry in Hong Kong either at Kowloon Ferry Terminal or at the Central Ferry Terminal. There are several companies running this route, but the only big difference between them is their departure times. The entire trip takes only one hour and is very pleasant. The high-speed ferries are modern and have refreshments and restrooms on board. The only annoying thing was the hour-long advertising video we had to sit through. For the return trip to Hong Kong, we got first class tickets due to the coach class seats being sold out. First class had more comfortable seats, and we were served a light dinner of sandwiches. The fare was HK$275 (US$35).

Macau Ferry Terminal

by Ewingjr98

The Macau Ferry terminal is probably the most common way for foreign visitors to enter Macau. It is located on the eastern edge of the Macau Peninsula near the Friendship Bridge leading to Macau's Taipa and Coloane Islands. From central Macau take Avenida da Amizade to the front entrance of the terminal. The Macau International Heliport is also located here and provides easy and quick (but expensive) access between the two cities. There are about 150 ferries between Hong Kong and Macau each day as well as a few ferries per day into China.

Walking

by Ewingjr98

Some of the sites in Macau are within walking distance of each other, others are not. We walked from Guia Fort to Leal Senado with no trouble. Also, the walk from Leal Senado to St Paul's is very pleasant, along cobblestone streets, storefronts, and restaurants. From St. Paul's, we also walked to Monte Fort.We took a taxi to the other major sites such as A-Ma Temple, Macau Tower, and the casinos as they are spread out on the edges of Macau.

The best way to get to Macao...

by JoseMonteiro

The best way to get to Macao is by plain. But if you are in Hong Kong, take the jetfoil across the Pearl River. It's a wonderfull trip.Bellieve me!Don't take any transportation to go anywhere, except for the islands. The city is very small and if it's not too hot or wet, walking is the best way to go around Macao. That is the only way to breathe some of the atmosphere from this place.Go to the street markets, walk on the streets, visit the temples, and agter a while, you'll think you've lived there forever.

Getting to Macau

by DrPoi

Maybe the best way is by ship from Hong Kong. The international flights are cheaper to Hong Kong than to Macau. The "jetfoil" ticket from Hong Kong to Macau will cost you around 140 HK dollars (14€) for a one way travel and it will take you around 50 minutes. If you're in a hurry and want to spend a bit more, for about 1500 HK dollars per person you can go by helicopter and it will take you 20 minutes. If you're coming from mainland China, there are plenty of buses from Guangzhou and it will take you about 2 hours to the terrestrial Zhuhai/Macau frontier.

Fly

by thelittlevoice

Air Macau flies directly from Bangkok to Macau.M W TH F SLeave Bangkok at 9.45pm Arrive Macau 1.30amLeave Macau 6.50pm Arrive Bangkok 8.45pmThe cost of course varies depending on which time of year you're flying. There was a promotion when I did, it was for 2 persons traveling together. I saw this secret book that one travel agency has and it was listed only 6000 Baht each BUT you can never find such a price, you'll be damn lucky to get 7500!Macau Airport is on Taipa Island but it takes only about 10-15 minutes to get to Macau.
