From Kuching, take a taxi or a Petra Jaya Bus No. 6 to Kampung (village) Bako. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes. Continue a 30-minute boat ride to the Park. Boats can be chartered at the terminal and they are operated by the villagers.

The boat fees depends on the number of people in the boat. See another pic for the price list. Charter a boat by 1 person is RM47. If yuo get 6-8 people, each pays RM9. To ensure you can share a boat at Bako village for low fare, get on the bus from Kuching at 7-9am as there are more travellers. If you arrive later, you will have to charter your own boat.

Permits and accommodation reservations can be acquired at the National Parks Booking Office, Kuching. Parks fee RM10.

Take bus number 6 near Kuching Mosque/Sikh Temple. Ticket fee is RM2 to Bako Village. From there, take a speed boat to the park. A boat will cost you RM 40 each way. If you can get more people on the boat, you end up paying RM8 only

The road from Kuching ends at Kampung Bako. From there, the only way you can get to Bako National Park is by boat. Many locals have small canoes that will take you there for a small fee, if you do not have your transportation arranged beforehand.

Sampan

The locals use the sampan for commuting in Bako fishing village.

However, to go to Bako National Park from Kampung Bako jetty the open top boats will be used as they are speedier and safer for the 30 minutes boat ride there.

Speed boat

Overland from Kuching to a small fishing village, Kampung Bako. Then by boat to the park. Timings of the short sea crossing are dependant on the tides (expect rough seas between November and February)

Only way to Bako is by boat

The only way you can get to Bako National Park is by boat. There is a boat launch about 10-15 miles outside Kuching. Any taxi driver knows how to get there. At the boat launch arrange for roundtrip transportation, you will have to tell them what day and what time you would like to be picked up for the return. Enjoy the boatride to the park and be prepared to wade ashore--your feet will get wet.

Some people grumble about the costs, but I recall it was only a dollar or two a person.
