In transit to Bako

From Kuching, take the No. 6 Petra Jaya Bus to Kampung (village) Bako. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes. Continue a 30-minute scenic boat ride to the Park.

Quick tip: Book a return boat journey immediately after you arrive at the Park. Try to talk to some people and see if you're leaving at the same time, so you can split the boat fare back.

Cost: About $15-$20 each way per boat; fare can be split among passengers (up to 5 or 6)

Open Top Boat

From the jetty of Kampung Bako, take the open top boat ride to Bako National Park's HQ in Teluk Assam. Its a rough yet enjoyable 30 minutes ride, passing through scenic views en route to the National Park. The 30 minutes boat ride also gives an impression of remotness of the National Park.

The boat can be chartered for RM80 per boat for a maximun of 5 passengers for the return journey to Bako National Park's HQ. However, if you want to go to other area in the National Park, you have to pay extra charges for the journey. For an additional RM30 per boat, you can take the boat ride to the sea stack area to view the famous "cobra head" formation.

Make sure that you tell the boatman the time you want him to fatch you for the return journey to Kampong Bako's jetty - otherwise you will be left stranded in Bako National Park.

To get to Bako National Park, take Petra Jaya Bus no. 6 which takes you to Kampung Bako. It takes about 45 mins to get there and only costs RM2.10. It departs from the open air market regularly from the first bus at 6:40am and last bus is at 5:15pm.

Then, you will need to take a boat ride from Kampung Bako to Bako National Park which takes about half an hour ride.
