    Langkasuka Culture
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is a very special trip, we drove all the way from Penang Island to Bedong then finally to this place called Bujang Valley, photo left is Sing standing in front of the Hindu Candi. This is the earliest Hindu culture 2000 years ago. Hindu Kingdoms 100bc-1400ad. The Bujang Valley Archeological Museum.

From the 4th Century AD up till the 14 Century AD, itwas the oldest centre of international and entreport trade for Malaysia. Archaeologists have unearthed evidence of early Hindu civilization with more than 50 temples or shrines.

Located in Pengkalan Bayang Merbok. Open from 9.30am - 5pm, daily. Admission is Free. See my traveloque of Bujang Valley. How to get there? Take a bus to Lembah Bujang or Bedong, you have to hire a taxi to get there, it's a 15km drive, you pay about RM40 for a trip. The location is just bottom of Gunung Jerai.

This musuem is totally hidden in the jungle. 101 points, 5-star.

This photo is taken in Bujang Valley Arceological Museum in Kedah by using my Nikon Camera. This is mentioned by name by the famous Chinese Buddhist pilgrim IChing, circa 670 AD,(if you can read Chinese) came under the control of the Sumatran kingdom of Sriwijaya before the end of the 7th century.

There do exist a small number of Sanskrit inscriptions from Kedah, west Malaysia, dating from the 5th century AD. Perhaps the most interesting of these are two stelae with superficially engraved stupa. On one of these, brief Sanskrit inscriptions mention a sea captain named Buddhagupta, inhabitant of a place called 'Red Earth'. He was a merchant and also a pious Buddhist.

The Banana Flower photo is taken in KL's near the National Mosque. What is Culture? My definition of culture is very simple, as long as there are a group of peoples doing something together for a certain period of time, then it will consider as a Culture. For examples: Now we are having a VT-Culture here on Earth in front of our computer everyday.

    Chinese New Year
  • Tip Rating:
  • To the Chinese, the most important festival is Chinese New Year, which falls in either January or February. It is ushered in with the lighting of fire crackers at midnight on the eve of the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

The colorful spectacle of Chinese New Year is evident long before the day of celebration itself. Eager crowds of shoppers can be seen searching for all kinds of seasonal delicacies: oranges for good luck, flowers and kumquat trees to beautify their homes. All debts must be settled and the house spotlessly cleaned before the new year begins.

On the even of the New Year, family relationships are remembered with a special reunion dinner to usher in the New Year. Younger members of the family visit their relatives, receiving red packets of lucky money (ang paus) while feasting and merrymaking.

The Chingay parade adds to the festive atmosphere with stilt walkers, lion and dragon dances, acrobats, and dozens of decorated floats taking to the streets amidst the clashing of cymbals and beating of gongs and drums. Penang is the place to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Some ancient traditions are still being adhered to, especially regarding religious matters.

Hindus venerate the cow, and often their traditions mandate that the cow feature prominently in their celebrations.

This float decorated with thousands of flowers, pulled by 2 bullocks, was crossing the road Jalan Lahat, in Ipoh.

That's how the photo was taken, from INSIDE the car ! Lucky me, and lucky you too.
