Johor Bahru's airport is known as Senai International Airport or in Malay - Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Senai. I am not certain as to when this airport serves International flights but I've read it in the local daily about flights from China landing here.
As far as I know, flights connecting with this airport are from Kuala Lumpur (KLIA & LCCT), Kuantan (Pahang), Pulau Pinang (Penang), Kota Kinabalu (Sabah), Sandakan, Sibu, Tawau, Kuching & Miri (Sarawak), Jakarta, Palembang & Denpasar (Indonesia), Macau, Rangoon, Bangkok, Manila, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Taipei, Pnom Penh, Pearl River Data and Singapore as well.

Have flown several times in JB using the Senai International airport. Airport code: JHB
There are two airlines, MAS (Malaysian Airlines) and budget airlines Air Asia.
The distance of the airport to downtown JB is about 30km. There is a regular bus shuttle from downtown JB to the airport.
If flying on MAS, you can buy another prepaid coach ticket at booking that will take from Senai to downtown Singapore without having to go to JB downtown.

If you are planning to visit Johor Bahru via airplane, you may do so as Johor Bahru has its own International Airport named Senai International Airport. It is situated in Senai town, 30 minutes drives from Johor Bahru. Not many choices of airlines as there are only some. Airliners that I can remember are Malaysian Airlines System, Air Asia and 2 Indonesian based airliners.
This airport is a very well maintain and organize. They had just recently upgrading their facilities especially upgrading their 1st floor with nice beautiful setup. The public toilet here being designed in a very creative ways and it is very clean.
At the Ground Floor, there are many shops and restaurants for guest and passenger to browse while waiting for their flight.
Public transport is also well managed as they do provides direct shuttle service from Senai to Johor Bahru town and as well as taxis.
Do visit their webpage to get more info.

The no-frill airline concept has arrived in JB too. Air Asia is currently the only no-frill airline from JB's Senai airport. There are daily flights to as far as Bangkok. Great for a weekend travel!
This no-frill airline has certainly bring in more tourists to JB. There are more people are interested in JB and get to know more about this small city...

If you are going to take the flight to other parts of Malaysia from JB on Malaysian Airlines, there's a coach provided by MAS that will bring you straight to Senai airport from Singapore via the second link. It is more pleasant to use the second link as it is less crowded. The coach will depart from Copthorne Orchid Singapore hotel, and you will need a valid onward flight ticket to be able to use this service. It cost SGD12 per journey per adult.
Conditions for using Coach service
- Coach is used in conjunction with MAS Designated flight out of Senai, or into Senai
- Passenger must have a confirmed ticket on the designated flight departing from Senai Airport (Johore), or arriving into Senai Airport (Johore)
- Passenger requiring special handling or medical case or unaccompanied minors cannot be accepted due no special facilities available on coach

Larkin in Johor Bahru is the southern gateway to Malaysia. It has connections to all parts of west Malaysia, the most frequent with almost 6 busses leaving for KL alone every hour or so.
Coming from Singapore, the best way to parts of Malaysia is to cross into Larkin. There are direct busses but the schedules are less impressive and there is no central bus station, besides the more expensive price in Spore dollars. Take to MRT to Kranji station and take the SBS bus no 170 all the way to Larkin. MRT and bus run from early morning to midnight. Else, take also Johor Singapore Express from Queen St bus station.
At Larkin, you will meet a lot of 'ulat', or worms - these are touts selling bus tickets. You have been warned not to use them whatever promises they make. Always buy a ticket from sellers behind the counters. A few ulat actually operate right in front of the counters! Some express counters are behind the front row, so shop around.
Transnasional is the biggest bus company with frequent departures and the widest network, so it's a good place to start. Some busses still use 2 + 2 seating, so don't be afraid to ask if you seek comfort.
If you take a taxi to or from Larkin, check if they use meter. Metered taxis at Larkin are found at the newly rennovated side, look for La Café cafe. It costs only RM5-6 to city.
From Larkin to Tioman, look for busses to Mersing, such as Transnasional, S & S or Causeway Link. Some Transnasional busses stop in front of Timotel, all others stop at the bus station. Either way, walk towards the round-about. Look for AmBank and KFC and follow the road till the jetty. Should take you about 10 minutes.
To KL, Transnasional has 17 trips per day. From personal experience, they are satisfactory. Most busses to KL will make a rest stop on the way normally in Yong Peng. Entire journey will take 4-5 hours. KKKL is another decent bus company although they have a habit of picking up passengers in Skudai and Tampoi which adds to journey time.
There is also a bus line to Senai Airport which helps you connect to Air Asia or Firefly.

I'd to take this picture not to show you how empty the toll booths at the 2nd causeway over at the Malaysian side was. But why I took this picture was because you need to remember to do two things:-
1. Have your Touch n Go card ready
2. Have value within your card
Without this card, you'd be stuck at the causeway and at the other toll booths. I'd both and the crossing of the causeway went about without much of a fuss. However, when I approached the toll booths a couple of kilometres away, I somehow could not find my card. "Did I drop it?" was my first reaction.
I'd to stop my car between two of the booths while looking for my card. When I found it, it was like striking gold!
Always keep the Touch n Go card close to you!
, but somehow I just could not find the card
