For a fine Chinese dining experience, visit my favourite restaurant, Meisan. This restuarant is housed inside the Mutiara Hotel. It is usually very packed during the weekends. Hence, reservations strongly encouraged. This restaurant is Halal too.

If you love to eat cakes, this is the place to go. Secret Recipe, a franchise from Kuala Lumpur recently opened in Johor Bahru. It serves delicious cakes and drinks. It also serves food like chicken shop, tom yam noodles, etc.

Shi De Fu Hawker Centre is similar to any other hawker centres in terms of its setup. This hawker centre is slightly smaller than the one at Taman Tebrau. There are a lot of more delicious food at Shi De Fu. It is favourite among locals. There are a number of stalls serving beer and fresh sugarcane drink and other fruit juices too.

Halal seafood restaurant serving all types of seafood. It has a spacious eating area which can hold up to 100 tables or more. There is an air-conditioned and an open-air section.
The place was recently renovated and the dining experience there has improved tremendously.

This hawker centre is a favourite among tourists, especially Singaporean tourists. This is the place to come if you want to sample local food. There are numerous food stalls at the hawker centre. My favourite stall is the one serving Hong Kong Style Chee Jong Fun (the stall is towards the end of the hawker centre when you enter from the front). Yong Tau Foo is quite normal and is extremely epensive. There are many many good seafood restaurants in Johor Bahru and one of them is definitely the Todak Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant is run by the real "bumiputras" who fish for a living. This group lives by the seaside near Taman Perling housing estate and gradually, restuarants start to mushroom in that area. There are many similar restuarants there and Todak is still the best so far.
Chilli Crab is my favourite dish there. The oysters are always very fresh. There are other more "exotic" seafood. Ying Yang Cod Fish is my favourite dish. This dish is rather special as you will get to eat a "dry" cod fish (deep-fry) and a steamed cod fish on a plate.
