since Johore Bahru is the main gateway to singapore from malaysia and vice versa, the comfortable long travel recliner buses usually have a rest and eating stop in the big bus stops cum terminals lining the main road going from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, which is a 5 hour drive. these bus terminals cum mini malls have assorted food courts serving local malay, chinese, indian and indonesian foods and also have shops for souvenirs inside.

the food stalls offer everything from malaysian chinese favorites like ba kut teh, to malay favorites like mie goreng to malyasian indian favorites like soto ayam and a lkot more.

opens: 7:00 am to 10:00 pm everyday

Favorite Dish: all the local malay, chinese, indian, indonesian and halal dishes and a lot more and prices are very cheap and will only cost from 6 to 15 ringgit per person, depending on the food you choose.

    The curry place.: Great curry.

by cachaseiro Written Sep 5, 2012
The curry place in Johor Bahru.

The curry place is a really nice and friendly little restaurant in JB that serves various dishes, but is especially famous for their fish curry and i tried it when i was there and it is sure very good.
The place is nice and relaxed, but still stylish and very clean.
The place seemed very popular with families hen i was there and the friendly owners have small children themselves, so brining your kids there is sure no problem.
    I will return again.

George & Dragon Cafe: A Little Medieval!

Here's My Mini Pizza that Hardly Filled My Tummy!
    1 more image

From the outside looking in, the restaurant tries to put in a medieval look - with it's shields and full body armour. Even though it was a Saturday, we did not have to wait long for a place. Also, the restaurant was located on the ground level and it's one of the nearer restaurants to the entrance.

Favorite Dish: I had a go at their pizza. It was not too bad albeit the small size which did not fill my stomach. They had proclaimed that we should taste the best steaks in their restaurant. Maybe if I have the chance, I should ditch the pizza and go for their seemingly juicy steaks. :)

Ishwara Asian Brasserie & Terrace: Wide Spread Of Food

Staff Serving Up Tasty Chicken Rice
    1 more image

Nothing blows me away more than fine touches restaurants. This restaurant within the compounds of Le Grandeur Palm Resort not only offered us with a buffet meal (Nothing much to crow about though), they also had little stalls - one with a staff that served chicken rice, and another is a self-service counter where you can make your own ice kachang.

I'd not paid to visit this restaurant as it was part of a package deal when we booked the hotel room.

Favorite Dish: The worst non-compliment one can offer to a restaurant is when one says that the best dish on offer is the cut fruits. Thankfully, this is not to be the case. The food is generally normal, but the chicken rice was not too bad. The dessert was so-so.

Ramly Burger: Best Burger in Malaysia

    by Aidy_p Written Sep 15, 2011

The Ramly burger franchise has been around for many years now. I remember my first ever experience with the burger some time in 1995 while heading up to Pulau Tioman. Franchises have even sprung up in Singapore.

Favorite Dish: It is really how the burger all wraps up, literally. Like all burgers, you have a beef patty and also a bun. The similarities go only as far as these. How Ramly burger is different is that any condiments you've asked for, plus the beef patty are all wrapped together with a thin layer of egg.

Top it up with chilli or tomato sauce, and you'll have one yummy burger on your hands.

  • MaMa Nynoya Food: Nynoya Food in Johor Bahru (JB)

by vincentang Written Sep 8, 2011

    Dear Friends

I found this restaurant by chance some months ago while visiting a friend at Molek in JB.

Was quite impressed with the food on my very first visit, why ? I been to Malacca all these years and every trip I will try different places but most turn out to be quite a disappointment. After some time I gave up and just went for the food on the streets.

Anyway, the food at this place is rather authenic , they have came up with Ayam Buah Keluah which had the meat stuffed in the nut, which I found to be rather rare these days. I remember having them when I was young when my grandmother was area. I like to comment on their Kapitan Chicken, I had it with Nasi Lemak and it was heavenly !!! You guys ought to try .

Over the months when I am at their restaurant which is located at 8 Jalan Molek, 1/28 Taman Molek ( its behind Alliance Bank , the nearest Landmark would be Ponderosa Golf Course), I will never miss their kuihs, they have Seri Muka, Bengah Ubi ( might be wrong spelling, pls forgive me), Kuih Talam etc ... Even after a heavy meal I will still have a Chendol to go to complete my makan.

Somewhat I have made good friends with the owner and chef, Grace Lim who whips up all those delicious food. She has told me that a new menu might be out soon, me looking forward !!!

So all those who love Peranakan ( Nynoya ) food, do give this restaurant a try. In my opinion its the best in JB !!

    Cheers

    V.A

Located at the exciting beach front of Danga Bay (20 minutes from the Second Causeway), this restaurant has definitely a grand feel because of it's opulant set-up. Unfortunately, the most interesting aspect of this restaurant is not about their food, but a whole host of aquariums with very interesting fish.

Favorite Dish: Their Beijing Duck is not too bad. What about the seafood? Erm, I guess it so-so.

Food & Tea Restaurant: One of the Restaurant in Tebrau City

    Food & Tea Restaurant
    2 more images

This nicely decorated restaurant that is located on the third level of the swanky Jusco Tebrau City serves pretty decent food. There is also a dedicated area if you're just there to drink tea.

Favorite Dish: Prices of most of the dishes ranges from RM5.80 to one of the more expensive RM10.80. That is still pretty cheap considering that it's less than USD4 for a nice plate of Chicken and Seafood Fried Rice with XO sauce. I just had to try that, though I'd say that it's not always true that the most expensive dish would taste the nicest.

Jackie had a bowl of noodle soup for a mere RM5.80 and I can vouch that it tasted so much nicer than my Fried Rice.

  • huizu hot wok: clean, simple and delicious

    by phebee78 Written Jun 16, 2010

You can find many chinese restaurants in Johor Bahru, but they are either the same or pricey than the others... then i came to know huizu hot wok which never try to be the same. yes, they have the contemporary chinese essence in their decor and food, but they don't go all out with straight up seating with lavish upholstery which can blind you away from the food. They offer seemingly simple dishes in an humble and clean environment. The staff knows their menu well, offer help with baby seating and even call for a cab to drive you to your next destination. a pleasant experience all in all from start to finish. They have ample parking lots, free wifi, background music, but no tv (in which, i don't really mind at all).

Favorite Dish: It would definitely be the Pan fried prawn oat which goes along well with my Honey starfruit blended juice and dragon fruit ice cream for the dessert. yuuuuuuuuummmmyyy.

Damai Seafood Village Restaurant: A cozy 'green' setting

by Chuckaziz Updated Mar 31, 2010
    Damai Fried Bun
    3 more images

The Damai Seafood Village Restaurant is located in Kampung Danga; about 30 minutes drive from Johor Bahru (JB) city. Damai as the name suggests is a tranquil place to enjoy your seafood meal with a quaint setting amidst large area of green. The place is a refreshing escape from the hustle of the city. It is also surrounded by fish ponds. The restaurant is off the beaten path and is JB’s best kept secret for great seafood. Not all locals knew about the place and I manage to surprise my friend who is the residence of JB when it was my turn to buy him dinner. The restaurant which started operation in March 1998 has been serving guests from as far as Singapore.

Favorite Dish: There are more than 50 dishes on its menu. My family favourite is the Damai-style fried bun or bread roll to be eaten with the Indo Clay-pot Prawn Curry. Damai fried rice also goes down well with the Indo Clay-pot curry.

Ah Koong Restaurant: Freshest Fish Balls

    by Aidy_p Updated Mar 20, 2010
    Exterior of Ah Koong

One important aspect of one's enjoyment of food is how the restaurant is laid out and most definitely, the ambience.

I really like it that the cooking is done on the outside. What's more, you can pick and choose the different types of fish balls and noodles that you'd want to savour.

Favorite Dish: I ordered the set meal. It came with a bowl of yummy noodle, a separate bowl of fishball soup, and a plate of fish cake. All these for less that RM12.

Huizu Hot Wok: One of the few Halal Chinese Eatery worth trying!

    by wawa55 Written Sep 28, 2009
    dinner with family

What I like about the food is that all are served hot, very 'chinesey' and above all, they are prepared in accordance to Halal principle. Love the simple and contemporary decor with complementing light fittings and furniture. It was quite hidden from the busy main street but once I discovered the place, it was very cozy, airy and have lots of ample parking spaces. They even have free Wifi for my quick blogging surge. The restaurant decor and ambiance are very much suitable for friends and family gathering and even business hangout. Contemporary chinese caligraphy adorns the wall with all the matching pieces.

Favorite Dish: I must say that I love the prawn oat. I can even eat them on its own. Other notable dishes includes the hot and spicy torch ginger tom yam. . very creamy even though they are almost clear soup.

Kafe Old Kan Kee: Great Hainanese Chicken Rice

by Avya Updated Sep 21, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

kafe Old Kan Kee from the outside

Here's a quaint little coffee shop with an authentic local feel. The ambience is like in the 1940's - 1960's. You'll find old stuff hanging around the shop eg. the gramaphone, the old radio, old ashtrays, sarongs, etc.

    Latest Breaking news
I'm sorry to say that this restaurant is no longer there. Think they closed down already. So sad.. It must be because of the bad location.

Favorite Dish: They serve delicious Hainanese chicken rice and Mee Rebus. I haven't tried the others yet.
They also serve traditional coffee and tea.

They are opened from 730am until 6pm from Mon-Fri,
7:30am - 3pm on Saturdays, they CLOSE on Sundays.
