The coffee shop is non air-conditioned and is a typical Hainanese coffee shop... Located on the narrow Jalan Trus, parking is always a problem... It is usually crowded in the mornings and during lunch time...
Favorite Dish: In the morning, the coffee shop serves its noted coffee and tea, kaya toasts and hard boiled eggs... It also serves economic noodles... For lunch, there is the nasi lemak which is a favorite of the Johor Baru lunch crowd...

This delicious bakery has been operating ever since the British left the country... It was owned by the British to bake bread... Today, the outlook of this quaint little bakery that was started by Lim Joo Ban in the 1930s remains virtually the same... The over 80-year-old bakery was started by the late patriarch Lim Joo Ban... The bread is still made the same way he did it when he arrived from Hainan Island in 1928, although the business is now run by his children and grandchildren... A huge woodfire oven dominates the small shop, the walls blackened by years of smoke...
The bakery is opened from 8.00am to 6.00pm... It is closed on Sundays... However, baking only starts from 12.30pm...
Favorite Dish: Today, Hiap Joo Bakery sets at Jalan Tan Hiok Nee sells Kaya buns, Red Bean buns, Coconut buns, Banana cakes and bread... The bakery is famous for its banana cake... Soft and moist with the intoxicating perfume of bananas, the melt-in-your-mouth cake is one of the best around...
Fresh buns and loaves are only available after 2.30pm while banana cakes from 3.00pm... The daily routine goes something like this... The dough is prepared from 8.00am and by 10.30am, the risen dough would be shaped and filled... 30 minutes later, the charcoal oven is fired up... After 2.00pm, trays of prepared pastries are systematically arranged and frequently rotated inside the charcoal oven using a long shovel-like instrument...

The restaurant is along Jalan Biru...It is a single storey building (although its name means 3 stories in Chinese)... It is non-airconditioned but the atmosphere is good and it is cool and airy in the evening for dinner...
Favorite Dish: The most famous dish here is the fried mee hoon... it is dried fried and the best not only in Johor Bahru but in the country... I always come here just for the fried mee hoon...
Other dishes include seafood... the steam fish is also good and comparatively cheaper than other seafood restaurants in Johor Bahru... There are also lala shellfish, prawns etc...

It's a typical old fashioned coffee shop along Jalan Harimau in Century Garden, close to Holiday Plaza.
It's a father and son effort and their famous noodle has appeared many times in the press. If you don't mind a lousy looking coffee shop to try JB local wanton noodle, then do come and try.
You must say 'yes' when they ask you if you want chilli added. The chilli enhances the flavour of the dish a lot!
The JB wanton noodle is different from the KL wanton noodle. KL wanton noodle is with the dark soya sauce, but as you can from the pic, JB wanton noodle is without the dark soya sauce.
It only costs RM 3 for small, RM 4 for medium and RM 5 for large. I chose the medium and I still found that insufficient. The small portion is kids portion, I'd say. The medium for ladies and large for men.

If you like seafood, welcome to paradise. There are many restaurants, all situated along the waterfront. Walk further down before settling on one. We settled for a restaurant called 6 Corner, judging on the crowd, as compared to the rest of the restaurants. Friendly staffs, nice and clean place. Situated on the seafront facing Singapore, the view is lovely. The food is cheap too. We paid 130RM for 6 dishes + satay + drinks. The food comes in very generous portions. Our dishes were all ordered based on 1 person servings, yet the 3 of us couldn't finish them. So be advised. heh!
Favorite Dish: I am not a fan of fish. But BBQ fish/ikan bakar, I can't resist. Especially fresh ones...yum yum! I feel that the best dish here is the plain, original BBQ fish/ikan bakar. Eaten with the sambal....
