    City Square.: Shopping - 3

    by A2002 Updated Nov 13, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

City Square is the nearest shopping mall to the causeway. It is quite a new and modern shopping mall in JB.

This is one of my favourite place to shop in, especially during the Mega sale. Clothes, shoes, bags, cosmetics, etc... I can spend a day here shopping and eating. :-)

Sometimes I like to watch the world go by sitting in an air-conditioned cafe, sipping a cuppa coffee... Relax, eih?

    Hypermarkets.

    by A2002 Updated Nov 13, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Carrefourre, Giants, Makro...

There are several hypermarkets in and around JB, attracting many shoppers from across the causeway. During the weekends, these hypermarkets will be very crowded with shoppers buying their groceries for the week ahead...

The hypermarkets will not be easily accessible by public transport and are not just across the causeway. They are about 20 minutes drive from the causeway on the highway, depending on traffic conditions.

What to buy: Usually, things to buy here are normal groceries such as milk, meat, vegetables, fruits, bakeries, biscuits, etc, etc...

During the festive seasons, there will be stalls selling festive goodies. The major festive seasons are Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali, mooncake festival, etc...

What to pay: Lower in price for some products as compared to other shops. Not everything are cheaper...

What to buy: VCDs, DVDs, Music CDs and Computer Softwares are abundant.

There are a few good hairdressing salons on the 4th level.

What to pay: Depends on what you get.

City Square Shopping Centre: Just next to the Causeway

by bkoon Written Oct 27, 2003

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This Shopping Centre was opened not too long ago (less than 5 years). It is definitely very popular among tourists coming from Singapore as it is just next to the causeway. Most of the regular boutiques are there. Some reasonable-priced brand names are :
    - Vincci (Shoes and Accessories)
    - Seed (Casual Wear)
    - Padini Authentics (Casual Wear)
    - TOPS (Supermarket)
    - Mango (Formal Wear, regular Spanish Brand)
    - Levis Jeans
    - Times Bookshop
    - Starbucks, Olio Dome, Coffee Bean (Cafes)
    - Etc

There is also a cineplex where you can catch the latest Holloywood, Hong Kong, Local Movies.

What to buy: Normal shopping. You may be interested to shop for some Malaysia food products (eg Nutmeg preserves, Penang Bean Biscuits, Durian rolls, sweets, etc). If you are thinking of buying some chewing gum into Singapore, you may get it at City Square too.

What to pay: Depends on what you get.

    Angsana Shopping Complex.: Malay fashion.

    by A2002 Updated Dec 10, 2002

If you want to buy kebaya, sarong, songkok, etc, and other Malay fashion, there are a number of shops in Angsana. There's also a wedding photography shop for a Malay wedding there. Go have a look.
For food when you are hungry, there are more selections at the basement. Usual fast food restaurants, such as, KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, are clustered togather.
I personally like shopping there. Usually I will shop for groceries there or just have a walk around.

What to buy: I usually buy my groceries here since it is near my home in JB. It is not very expensive and not so crowded.
