Zoo, Johor Bahru
Visit the Zoo in Johor Bahru. It may not look good as any other zoos in the world but it's quite nice because of the environment around it. At least, you're helping the inhabitants by visiting them.
The entrance fee is RM2.00 for adults and RM1.00 for children.
The Zoo is one of the oldest in the country and it was built by Sultan Sir Ibrahim in 1928. In the 1960s, it was handed over to the government to manage.
If you want close encounters with the tigers, then this zoo is for you. For me it's really scary like there's this one tiger whose cage's door is so small and only locked by a small yale. The tiger was really huge that it can easily break that small door with some visitors enraging it. This really scared me and so is the tiger's sound of exasperation.
The tigers enclosures are, I think, not safe enough. There are some enclosures that you have to take up the stairs and see the tigers below. But there's this tiger who's sitting on top of a cement-made branch, which made him reach the same level as the visitors'. I didn't stay there for so long as that tiger can just jump to me or so.
One reason I went to Johor zoo is to see a camel. I can't remember having seen one in person.
A rather sad, languid zoo, where the animals were not exactly mistreated, but neither looked after very well. They looked rather hot and bored. Some of the animals didn't seem suited to the hot, humid climate at all. The zoo isn't dirty, but it's worn and tired looking. It did have the only playground we could find in the city, but it was rusty and old, so not all that great for kids even.
Zoo Johor was established in 1928 as an "animal garden" by the late Sultan Ibrahim... It is the private zoo of the Johor Sultan and was believed to be the first zoo in Asia at that time... The name of the zoo was later changed to Zoo Johor and is now administered by the Johor State Government...
Zoo Johor is a small zoo with its restricted space available... However, it is well managed where one can view flamingos, elephants, horses, an aviary, lions and crocodiles... A stroll around the lake at the zoo is both refreshing and pleasant... Some of the animals can be seen from the road thru the zoo's perimeter fencing...
The zoo is open daily to the public from 8.00am to 6.00pm... Entrance fee is an affordable RM2 for adults and RM1 for children...
