Desaru located 98km northeast of Johor Bahru, covers a 26km stretch of beach. All kinds of sports, from snorkeling, swimming and canoeing, jungle-trekking to golfing can be enjoyed here. Three top-class hotels are already established at Desaru, offering impressive resort facilities for the above activities. Off the coast, are Pulau Sibu, Pulau Besar, Pulau Tinggi, and Pulau Rawa, popular for their unspoilt charm and tranquility.
Pulau Sibu Tengah is located off the East Coast of Mersing, Johor, in the South China Sea. It is a island resort surrounded by white sandy beach. Sibu Island Resort presents an impressive range of accommodation which reflects true Malay traditional style of architecture There is an endless choice of things to do and see around the resort. Enjoy the crystal water rich with brightly coloured fish, exotic corals and natural scenery of unspoilt charm that typifies the magic of the island.
Head down south towards Punggai along Trunk Route 90 and you will come to this beach. If you like the idea of a deserted beach, this will qualify. Unspoilt in many ways. Batu Layar Beach has very interesting rock formation
Further down south along this road is Teluk Punggai Beach. Again another deserted beach.
Both are excellent places to see the ocean and an unspoilt shoreline
Desaru resorts usually schedule a fireflies tour at night. Just pay the fee and go.
I have no pictures to show due to the inadequate night photography abilities of a prosumer digicam.
Do you know that the human eye is most sensitive to light. A match that is lit 5 miles away can be seen if there is unobstructed view in a clear night?
Similarly, your eyes have to experience the glow of the fireflies. No photograph will do justice to this marvel.
The area is a mangrove swamp of sorts. Mosquitoes abound so bring that repellant.
Its been years since the last fireflies visit. The boat has been upgraded to a huge barge taking up to 20 or more tourists at one go. Fireflies are still there. The jetty now has a restaurant of sorts. The road leading to the jetty is now a paved road instead of the dirt road when I first went in 2004.
It costs around MYR15 per person and the resorts charge MYR40 per adult and MYR25 per child. If you got to the resort by personal transport the GPS coordinates for the Sg Lebam Firefly Cruise Jetty is:
+1deg 33' 43.01", +104deg 10' 58.47"
It is a sleepy fishing village. It has one moderately priced resort and budget chalets. A tiny beach with lots of rocks. The long jetty is its main feature.
5 mins away from the Kota Tinggi Waterfall homes a pottery estate. Peter Loh built this workshop & kiln over the years as his retirement project.
To enjoy a nice relaxing drive to Punggai and maybe head to Sungei Rengit for seafood, take Trunk Route 90.
Okay, go up the stairs next to the first waterfall to get to the real paradise.....look at the picture, need I say more?
