Monsoon winds make trips to outlying islands an impossibility during the months of Oct-Feb. These waves can be quite dangerous, even if you are keen on drift diving. Please check the tidal charts or weather forecast before leaving or planning your trip at the link below. Also to note are the tidal rhythms. During very high hightides and very low lowtides, boats may have difficulty leaving or entering the Mersing jetty. You may have to wait quite a while for the tidal change. Check the tidal charts too

Ferry users from Mersing to Pulau Tioman are warned to take care when taking the ferry from Mersing to Pulau Tioman with the recent fire and subsequent sinking of the Seagull Express II on October 12th... Surviving passengers told of insufficient life jackets as they plunged into the sea... Seven passengers died during the mishap... The ferry was also over-crowded... It was subsequently found that the ferry did not have the necessary license to carry passengers...
Depsite stern warnings from the authorities, it was reported that the ferry operators still have their ferries over-loaded after the fire tragedy...
