The Royal and Customs & Exercise Building is situated along Jalan Maharani. It is near the Sultan Ismail Bridge where the other side of Muar is and towards Melaka.
This building is located just opp Sai Kee coffeeshop where we have our coffee break.
This mosque looking building was built in 1909.
Favorite thing: Muar is pronounced as Moo-are. Is a mid-sized port town where in history related to Parameswara, the founder of Melaka Empire. Muar is so so so famous for Otak-otak (picture), local food made of fish meat wrapped inside green pandan leaves.....
Favorite thing: Muar is also known as Maharani City, so you can see so many shops using the name of Maharani, such as this one Maharani Curry House. There were many more, Maharani Clinic, Maharani this, Maharani that..., anyway Maharani is ancient Sanskrit of Hindu, it means the queen, the Queen's City is the name in the old days before changed to Muar. Maharani City was a city under Majapahit Kingdom in 14th century much earlier than the Melaka Empire 1402.
Favorite thing: McDonald's is a must in almost every bigger towns in Malaysia, Muar is no exception. The Store is the name of supermarket. McDonald's is after all, exotic, convenience, comfortable and not too expensive, a set of local meal cost Rm5.50 compare to McDonald's set meal Rm8.95, additional Rm3.45 but you don't have to enjoy the hot weather. Anyway, McDonald's is everywhere no matter what you think.
Favorite thing: Parameswara was here, so was Joo. Alexander the Great's descendant, Mr.Parameswara, the founder of Melaka Empire 1402, he was here, but I don't know what exactly he did here, history recorded so, I told you so. Parameswara is a superhuman, his soul still live in Malaysia, the yellow color on the flag of Malaysia was his.
Favorite thing: Most Malaysian peoples like to have an Imperial Gate or Door at home, they think it look beautiful and valuable. Here is a shop selling luxurious doors, Muar residents can buy the door and fix it at home as decoration.
Favorite thing: Yong Choon Association is another associations in Muar's main street. ChineseMalaysian Associations is quite similar to Manchester United FC, Chelsea FC, Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC, Everton FC, etc. These associations are not football clubs but ethnic clubs, Yong Choon go to Yong Choon Association, Liverpool fans go to Liverpool FC Clubs, exactly.
Favorite thing: Riverview Hotel is a hotel able to view the river of Muar. But I think you need to go up to top floor to be able to see the river. Anyway this is a modern hotel, modern tourists may stay, less modern tourists may stay too.
Favorite thing: Hi, i am now already in muar for more than 6 months.... and great thing that i found a small Theravadin group... not much activity.... but we have sunday school for chirldren every sunday 10am - 12.00....
Favorite thing: English learning is everywhere in Malaysia, except in village. Villagers dislike English, they were taught to speak no non-Malaysian language as patriotic.
Favorite thing: Cha Yang Association is another associations of ChineseMalaysian. Such associations are very complicated, I suggest foreign tourists need not know so much.
Favorite thing: Teo Chew Association is another associations in Muar. Teo Chew peoples will go to Teo Chew Association, very simple.
Favorite thing: Aging Embassy Hotel is probably too old for modern peoples to stay, you know it was built at least 50 years ago, look cool anyway, is in Muar town center.
Favorite thing: You can buy ferry tickets here, this is a photo of the ferry office with phone number. This office is next to the Teo Chew Association on the main street of Muar.
Favorite thing: Kastam Diraja Muar is Muar Royal Custom. Incoming boats need to declare here, it is located on the main street of Muar, nobody able to miss this one.
