by Wild_Orchid After the long drive, you'll surely want to relax by the pool or the beach. Summerset at Rompin has them both. The pool is rather small, but the beachfront cannot be beat. With fine white sand and tall trees swaying, it's a lovely place for a swim or to sun-bathe. The picture shows my daughters standing on the beach in the late evening just before sunset. There are lots of activities for you and the kids at Kuala Rompin. Catamaran, kayaking, nature walk, beach volleyball, cycling, riding on the All-Terrain Vehicles, beach party or go for a swim at the pool. Yes, I managed to try them all. My kids had the time of their lives and can't wait to go back. Even my three year old son managed to have a go at some of those activities. What a nice adventure for a little boy. on Rompin beach by Wild_Orchid Under my hotel and accomodation tips, I've talked about Summerset @ Rompin. It is not that easy to find it, so I've left some driving tips here. Taking the North-South Highway going south, exit Senawang toll, follow the signs and thru many traffic lights, to Kuala Pilah town, then onto highway 5 for signs to Bahau and Kuantan. Then highway 11 to Muadzam Shah, the University Tenaga town. Do not enter town. Continue on the same road and drive carefully because this is the tricky part. You need to keep left under the flyover, look for the Kuala Rompin sign, and make a right turn towards Kuala Rompin (using highway 2). At the T junction, there is a big sign to say Summerset Resort, turn left, and drive for about 2 km to the resort entrance. While the first 1.5-2 hours of the drive is rather difficult and a bit complicated, the rest is a breeze because you shall be driving on very straight FELDA roads. Total journey from KL is about 3.5 to 4 hours. Leave a Comment Address: Summerset Resort @ Kuala RompinDirections: 3.5-4 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur. First 2 hours is rather complicated, and the final part is a breeze.Website: www.summerset.com.my

swimming in an emerald swimming hole by bpacker Not too far from Lubuk Tapah campsite( Endau Rompin, Johor) lies a beautiful deep green emerald swimming hole. The waters here are deeper than Lubuk Tapah and that's where the caveat lies. This makes the water cold, too bloody cold in fact. It took me a while to warm up and when I was finally in the water shivering my ass off, a grinning Orang Asli told me that there were water leeches in the water. And those water leeches were far worse than the small ones found on land. Great. Needless to say, the local was safe and dry on the banks when he was saying this. Still he distracted us and pointed to a fallen log where we could do our dives. Leave a Comment

Since young, my parents always buy us herbal tea drinks after the shopping session at Muar's malls due to long parking distance. My dad will normally order and wanted us to drink liang-teh to "cool" down the effect of the heat. Some additional Chinese medicines can be added in case you have serious sore throat and just simply want to give yourself some Chinese supplements. The tea sellers will take 1-2 tea spoons full of powdery medicine and dilute them in you tea. Of course most of these additional "++" are bitter. Chinese sayings, the medicines that taste bitter are good medicines. Leave a Comment

Takah Tinggi looked like the natural choice! by bpacker There are lots of challenging treks in Endau Rompin and at the end of each trek lies a beautiful waterfall. Take a look at the board and guess which trek my team members choose? Hint: Some of them have scaled Mount Kinabalu, experience sunrise from Mount Fuji and wandered the plains of the Serengeti. I've done neither of those expeditions so I was in for trouble.. Things to take note of: Some of these treks are notoriously steep and treks can get tricky with a couple of fallen logs. Make sure you go with a guide! Leave a Comment

Endau Rompin, Johor by bpacker Welcome to Endau Rompin, one of the oldest rainforests in the world* and only a couple of hours away from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. Not many folks know this but the rainforest over here in Johor is believed to be even older than the Amazon or the Congo. But the lack of publicity is proving to be a boon as this place is not as commercialised as Taman Negara nor as crowded. Join me as I journey from Singapore to Endau Rompin on a train! *The rock formations date back some 248 million years Leave a Comment

Somehow my dive camera always fascinate my travelling companions. So when they saw me with one at Takah Tinggi Waterfalls in Endau Rompin, they begged me to stay underwater while they flung their lunch at the fish. Sigh. I'm not one to preach about world hunger so I just complied. Take a look at the pictures and guess what they fed the fishes. Afternote: As an omnivore, the typical Kelah diet consists of fruits that fall into the river. So when food is flung to the fishes, these greedy buggers do not think twice about gobbling human food. It was first planned to be part of the railway connecting Johor Bharu and Gunung Pulai, but the effort is futile as it failed to render any service. Thus, Muar was the first district to have its own railway service. The construction of Muar Railway was completed in 1890 and soon giving transportation service from Jalan Sulaiman in Bandar Maharani to Parit Jawa. The service was then extended to Sungai Pulai in 1914. The railway service which was called the Muar State Railway not only used to transport passengers but also agricultural produce. In its effort to promote public education, Muar Railway gives free rides to Malay student of Bandar Maharani English School. Muar Railway has made a lot of contribution to transportation and agricultural industry, its service however has to be discontinued in 1918 due to inevitable circumstances. Leave a Comment

Fried Mussels in egggs (not quite oysters) by muddybok, 3 more photos There are many streets in Muar specialised in takeaway stalls that sell almost anything fit for human consumption, and mostly oily. May be not so good for locals to eat them all the time, but we tourists are the most daring ones. We eat so long we manage to find time & foods. So, just unleash your appetite in Muar and you will never regret it. Leave a Comment
