All types of activities await you

by Wild_Orchid

There are lots of activities for you and the kids at Kuala Rompin. Catamaran, kayaking, nature walk, beach volleyball, cycling, riding on the All-Terrain Vehicles, beach party or go for a swim at the pool. Yes, I managed to try them all. My kids had the time of their lives and can't wait to go back. Even my three year old son managed to have a go at some of those activities. What a nice adventure for a little boy.

Summerset @ Rompin-How to get there

by Wild_Orchid

Under my hotel and accomodation tips, I've talked about Summerset @ Rompin. It is not that easy to find it, so I've left some driving tips here.Taking the North-South Highway going south, exit Senawang toll, follow the signs and thru many traffic lights, to Kuala Pilah town, then onto highway 5 for signs to Bahau and Kuantan. Then highway 11 to Muadzam Shah, the University Tenaga town. Do not enter town. Continue on the same road and drive carefully because this is the tricky part. You need to keep left under the flyover, look for the Kuala Rompin sign, and make a right turn towards Kuala Rompin (using highway 2). At the T junction, there is a big sign to say Summerset Resort, turn left, and drive for about 2 km to the resort entrance. While the first 1.5-2 hours of the drive is rather difficult and a bit complicated, the rest is a breeze because you shall be driving on very straight...

Final Fantasy (14, 15, 16.....)

by muddybok

Rayners rock at Pulau Aur is famous for whale shark sighting. I have dove here many times and hoping to spot one of this magnificent creature that is so huge and gentle at the same time.I will not quit diving until I see whale shark underwater with my own eyes. Even after I see one myself, I will continue to dive as long as my body allowed. It’s like dream come true again and again kind of thing. ;-)

Getting Fashion Tips from Orang Asli

by bpacker

If you do get a chance to stay in Endau Rompin, don't miss out on the chance to interact with the local tribesman or the Orang Asli. They are effectively billingual in Malay and in their own native tongue which sounds strangely musical to the urban ear. They enthralled us with stories of the wild (Tigers! Tigers! Tigers!) and surprised us when they mentioned that there were many Orang Asli tribes in Malaysia. The ones in Johor belonged to the "Jakun" tribe and they were distinctly different from the others. They have their code of conduct of course and each a simple hand-woven bracelet to distinguish themselves from the other tribes. It was interesting to know that each tribe had a different weave! By the time the tribesman finished his tale, all of us wanted to be pseudo Jakuns and we persuaded him to weave a customised bracelet for us. He did, for Rm5.

Stopping by Keluang for Best Coffee In Malaysia?

by bpacker

Along the way from Singapore to Bekok via train, we by-passed the Keluang Railway Station and I couldn't help but think what muddybok, bkoon and imstress had been saying - there is a famous coffee shop there serves the best coffee, toasted bread “Roti Bakar” and half boiled eggs. But since my tour guide looked like the chappie who blew up the twin towers, I thought twice before jumping down the train to pack some toast. Sure good food was worth dying for but I was still young.Maybe the next time. In the meantime, I let my butt numb itself for 3 hours before I arrived in Bekok Town. The sign looked ancient, arrgh, could this be a foreboding of a dark adventure in Endau Rompin National park? The place for the to die for ToastKluang, railway station cafeFor a full and delicious write up, see muddybok's, imstress or bkoon's Keluang page. How to get to KluangEasiest way, via train from...

Go in a covered 4x4 to Endau Rompin

by bpacker

We had a spot of lunch at Bekok Town and after that, we got packed into 4x4s for our ride into the mighty jungle. But not really, it was more of a mad scramble for choice seats. All of us wanted to ride on the open-topped 4wd and I was really sorry that I could not get my more than ample ass on one. I climbed grudgingly into a covered Jeep. But the grudge turned into glee later. The team that got into the open top Jeep got drenched in a torrential downpour ( See another pix ) and had to be covered by a blue-tarp for the next 40min. Some folks call it adventure but I don't think it was too fun to be slow-cooked by the steaming method. I was glad to take the jeep after all.4wd drive adventures in Endau RompinIf you're keen to take a 4wd drive adventure in Endau Rompin but you don't have a jeep, try signing up with an adventure company that leaves from KL or Singapore. Trekking to Takah Tinggi Waterfalls

by bpacker

The trek to Takah Tinggi Waterfalls ( Endau Rompin) was tougher than expected as we encountered many obstacles - fallen logs, leeches, rocky areas, rickety bridges and steep slopes. Needless to say while we urbanites were struggling, our Orang Asli guide bounded like a gazelle into the shrubbery without shoes* ! Despite our struggles, we reached there in an hour and a half and we took half the time to return since my Serengeti mates rushed back in the rain. Those folks were obviously not nature lovers. I was pissed since I didn't get to photograph the wildlife I wanted.*Make sure you wear the proper gear when you trek in Endau Rompin if not, you're waiting for an accident to happen! Feeding your Lunch to Fish

by bpacker

Somehow my dive camera always fascinate my travelling companions. So when they saw me with one at Takah Tinggi Waterfalls in Endau Rompin, they begged me to stay underwater while they flung their lunch at the fish. Sigh. I'm not one to preach about world hunger so I just complied. Take a look at the pictures and guess what they fed the fishes.Afternote: As an omnivore, the typical Kelah diet consists of fruits that fall into the river. So when food is flung to the fishes, these greedy buggers do not think twice about gobbling human food.

Swimming in Lubuk Merekek.

by bpacker

Not too far from Lubuk Tapah campsite( Endau Rompin, Johor) lies a beautiful deep green emerald swimming hole. The waters here are deeper than Lubuk Tapah and that's where the caveat lies. This makes the water cold, too bloody cold in fact. It took me a while to warm up and when I was finally in the water shivering my ass off, a grinning Orang Asli told me that there were water leeches in the water. And those water leeches were far worse than the small ones found on land. Great. Needless to say, the local was safe and dry on the banks when he was saying this. Still he distracted us and pointed to a fallen log where we could do our dives.

Exploring Living Antiques in Bekok

by bpacker

Prior to my Endau Rompin romp, we explored the small town of Bekok ( You can bet it's small, I can't find it on VT yet! ) Apart from its size, this place looks frozen in time, circa 1960's to be exact. It comes complete with old-fashioned coffee shops, antique posters of medicated oil that claims to cure everything and antiquated barber shops complete with those swivel chairs. Hair cut anyone?
