The nighlife in Alor Star can be a bit dull. There are quite a numbers of pub, bar and club but I would say these places are mainly for serious drinker. Most of the local will actually prefer to go to hawker centres which provide cheap and good food and of course live football match. It not a bad place to hang out as friends can sit there the whole night drinking, eating, gossiping, watch football and most importantly it wont hurts your wallet!! Mamak stall is not popular in northern Malaysia so dont expect to see not many roti canai corner at night.
If you seriously want to find a more trendy and more uptodate club, Penang Island is not far away, just about 80mins drive and you will be in the second largest city in Malaysia.
