Kopitiam Seafood is in the heart of Alor Setar, Kedah. It has 2 sections. One section is like a open cafe style while the other is more suitable for family meals. Its airy and lots of parking spaces. Just a few metres away is a hotel and shopping centre. Very conveinent. Clean and tidy.
Favorite Dish: My favourite dish is the Kopitiam Fish Special. The concoction of the ingredients for the sauce to the fish is so unique that it melts in your mouth and it gives a distinctive taste. When you dip a piece of the fish into the sauce and put it into your mouth, it leaves a sensation feeling in you. You get to taste the sweetness, sourness and spicyness of the sauce in that order. I have tasted other similar dishes but the taste of these sauces are different. Pricing is reasonable, at about RM7.00 for other dishes.
Their Kopitiam Fried Noodles and Kopitiam Little Squid are very tasty too. High recommended. The menu has a wide range of other dishes too.

Favorite Dish: The local called it "kuan lor kar lee mee" which means dried curry noodle. The curry gravy used in this noodle is by far the best and most delicious that I have ever had. It is so tasty and yummy that even after u have finished it for an hour, the taste still linger in your mouth and mind and that make you wanna go back to have another one. It is a MUST EAT stuff if you are in Alor Star.
Its my choice of stall for "meehun sup" - i.e long yellow noodle served northern style in a bowl of piping hot, spicy beef broth with lots of beef or chicken, shallots, salted vege and a dash of chilli paste to make it even hotter (if you like). There were lots of other places but here is the best - the tastiest. The stall is clean and very presentable too.
Favorite Dish: the meehun sup. It doesnt serve anything else but you can order other food from adjacent stalls. I cant vouch for their yumminess though
If you are into malay mixed rice try out Nasi Pumpong. A stall under tall shady trees by the road side sell malay mixed rice with lots and lots of dishes to choose from.. Good crowd during lunch hour. From meat to seafood dishes, local salad and condiments.. The food served smoking hot from the kitchen, very finger licking. Choose your portion and the price is very reasonable. During lunchhour you see smoke drifting from the busy grilling stove.... I never miss this out whenever I go back to Alor Setar... too bad i go back only once/twice a year. P.S. i'm not sure about dinner, I always go there during lunch time

Chuan Chim offers good Thai food that is appreciated by its regular customers. The specialities are prepared by a Thai who knows the tricks of making authentic Thai food. If you are one who loves your food very hot and spicy, ground dried chili and cili padi are available for you to add to the food to suit your palate.

Kedai Makanan Laut Haadyai specialises in seafood cooked in authentic Thai cuisine style. There are crabs, prawns, squids and fish - all brought in directly from the nearby Kuala Kedah.
Favorite Dish: Diners must try its specialities which are kerabu roast duck with mango strips, fresh greens with a squeeze of lemon; and the seafood tomyam with prawns, squids and mushrooms. Othe delicacies include the crunchy and tasty kerabu chicken feet skin and steamed fish (locally called mang loh, Thai steamed fish)
This stall is one of the many stalls within the Happy Dragon Restaurant. The food which is bak kut teh (or pork ribs with tea) consists of pork meat, liver, intestines. stomach and other innards (or spare parts as it is commonly refered to).
Favorite Dish: The stall sells only bak kut teh. According to bak kut teh lovers, they insist that the bak kut teh at Kim Kee is special because of the richness of its ingredients, the freshness of the meat and the smoothness of the Kedah-grown rice.
The stall is very popular with the local people and is run by a few committed friends. The service is exceptionally good with its excellent drinks and superb nasi lemak. There are also other delicious traditional kuih to select from.
Favorite Dish: The stall specialises in nasi lemak where packages with fish is coded with the words IK and those with ikan bilis and telur (anchovies and egg) are coded BT.
For drinks there is Nescafe ais tarik and also the ever popular Malaysian drinks teh tarik and kopi tarik
Ask around town and you will be told that Lai Huat serves on of the best Curry Mee at Alor Star.
