Gunung Keriang is a limestone outcrop in the middle of flatland of padi (rice) fields in Alor Setar. It just seem to come out of nowhere with no surrounding hills or other formations. Just 10 minutes drive from downtown Alor Setar. It is very accessible and part of the hill area have been developed as a recreation area whereby juggle tracking and camping are the most favourite activies of its visitors. You can practically drive right to the foot of some climbing routes. Cave explorers would find Gunung Keriang an added adventure that is worth an experience. The history (legend) of Gunung Keriang is quite an interesting one. It is reputed to be alive and rotates every year until the English pegs it. Directions: LOCATED NEAR THE PADDY MUSEUM

by SLLiew Alor Setar downtown is much smaller than George Town or Ipoh but still have a collection of picturesque prewar typical terrace double storey buildings where the shops is on the ground floor and residents live on the top floor. A walk through downtown Alor Setar is a must to get a feel of this little Chinatown right in the middle of Kedah primarily Malay rural rice field villages in the yesterdays of 19th and early 20th century. Some of the buildings have been renovated unfortunately. Caught the sight one row which was an eye candy with its dramatic red paint. See picture. Address: Downtown Alor Setar - Chinatown

The Bujang Valley or Lembah Bujang is a historical complex and has an area of approximately 224 square km. Situated near Merbok, Kedah, between Gunung Jerai in the north and Muda River in the south, it is the richest archaeological area in Malaysia. Archaeological research indicates that there was an old Hindu-Buddhist empire built here. The name itself is roughly translated into "Dragon Valley". The area consists of ruins that may date more than 1,500 years old. More than fifty ancient tomb temples, called candi, have also been unearthed, many of which were built during the Bujang Valley civilization's heyday. The most impressive and well-preserved of these is located in Pengkalan Bayang Merbok. The Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum is also located here. Lembah Bujang Archaeological Museum also displays artifacts including pottery shards, ceramics and stoneware which dates back 1,500 years. Chinese porcelain, stone carvings, Indian tridents and gemstones from the Middle East.
