Lata Bukit Hijau is where one goes for a picnic and a swim in the waterfall area... Bukit Hijau is not a stand-alone waterfall... Fed by water flowing down from Gunung Inas (1,454m high), it is actually a chain of multi-level falls that gush dowstream along a series of lofty drops and water pockets... The highest drop is about the height of a 7-storey building... The better and pristine falls are located upstream and only accessible by trekking thru rutted trails along jungle-covered hillslopes... Gunung Inas also feeds rocky Sungai Sidim, a short drive away, which is well known for its white water rafting adventure and the world's longest canopy walk...

Besides wallowing in the river water, one can try the more adventurous 4km jungle train to Gunung Inas...The trail is lined by rainforest tresss like the merbau, meranti seraya and meranti tembaga...

Bukit Hijau is located along the Sungai Petani-Baling trunk road and a short detour will bring you right to the waterfall...

Baling Talks...

Baling is the venue for the historical talks between the communists (led by Chin Peng), the Malaysian government (led by Tuanku Abdul Rahman) and the British in 1955... It was held in a primary school now re-named as Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Putra... The main aim of the talk is the dis-armament of the communists for them to rejoin society... However, it was not successful as the communists want to be recognised and enter local elections when it is held... This leads to the extention of the Emergency until 1960...

This is listed in this section as it is not promoted as a tourist site due to the sensitivity of the issue...
