    Malaysian Longan

Some chap in Gurun has managed to plant , harvest and sell longan fruit in Gurun. Read somewhere that before him, Longan trees in Malaysia does not bear fruit. Only longan trees in Thailand bear fruits. However, the Thai longan that we get in Malaysia is always chemically treated. This chap's longan is NATURAL and safe to eat just like that.

To buy the longan, you need to call and order. Don't bother going there to buy on the spot. You won't get to! It is so popular and apparently demand exceeds supply.

According to the auntie, the longans are exported to KL. It is not found in supermarkets in Penang because people in Penang come here to snap all up!

Apparently there are some grading for the longan, but i only know of one grade
Grade A is RM8 per kg

Besides longan, the orchard also produces Jambu Air (Rose Apple)

    Gunung Jerai

We met the only Gunung Jerai guide at the night near the campsite. He told us, this is the only mountain in Malaysia that you can have both the land and sea view.

The view from the peak is so amazing that you can have half the coast and anothe half of it is laid by the padi field in Alor Setar.

    Gunung Jerai (Gurun hill).

A few miles away from Gurun is the foot of Gunung Jerai. To ascend to the top of the hill, you can either drive or hike or take a taxi. Along the way, one can get an exhilarating view of the padi fields. There is no high rise buildings in Gurun, but padi fields and small viallges.

I have not been to the hill top for a few years now. Perhaps I will during my next trip home and will take some pictures to show you. Now, the sight is only in my memories...

    Visit the kampung (village).

There are many kampung around where the locals live in peace and quietness. The roads in the kampung are usually paved in stones and sands with much greenery around. In the evening, maybe you can get to see children playing outside their houses. Usually, the people are friendly and know one another, hence any visitors will be recognised.

Besides spiders, lizards and birds, monkeys are another wild life that can be easily seen. What make this monkey (photo) so unique is it's tail is white colour.
