    Koh Tarutao

by machomikemd Written Jun 11, 2014

Pulau Langkawi is the Northern Most Island Group of Peninsular Malaysia at the Andaman Sea and Koh Tarutao is the Southernmost Island of Thailand in the Andaman Sea and both these Islands are only separated by 5 kilometers of sea. you can even see Koh Tarutao at a distance from the Viewpoint of Langkawi Sky Cab or the beaches of Tanjung Rhu and the sea above Kilim Geopark (really closed up if using an optical ultra zoom camera).

but it is hard to go to and back both these Islands are they are in different countries!

you need to ride a ferry from kuah jetty point to Satun in Southern Thailand Mainland and bring your passport and then get another boat ride to Koh Tarutao and it takes about a day to travel! (ferries to and from Satun to Langkawi and Satun to Koh Tarutao have fixed sailing times!)

they also have different time zones! sunrise is 7:20 am in Langkawi and 6:20 am in Koh Tarutao as Thailand is 1 hour behind Malaysia.

if you booked a Mangrove Tour with the Kayaking option, you be in a large speed boat loaded with kayaks and beside the various tours around Kilim Geoforest Park, you will be given 30 minutes to 1 hour kayaking along the Kilim River and this option will cost RM 250 (including the 5 hour tour and lunch).

The half day tours usually lasts 4 to 5 hours (depending if on a fish farm restaurant lunch and optional swimming at Tanjung Rhu, and if going to the hidden lake and more caves, or without these extras) and tour costs vary from 100 RM for just the mangrove tour w/o fish farm restaurant lunch and swimming at tanjung rhu and up to 175 RM to 200 RM per person if those extras I mentioned above are included. and there are two starting points for the tours, Most start at the Kilim Jetty (on the back road beside the Galleria Perdana) or along the jetty in Tanjung Rhu.

Travel time from Pantai Cenang Hotels to Kilim Jetty is about 35 minutes.

tours start at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm daily

you can book your tour fo cheap rates at the travel agenciy we had, the Legend Admire Tours and their number is 017-587-8511 or 019-543-5441 and look for Dean or Melissa.

    Bird Watching

by machomikemd Written Jun 16, 2014

Langkawi is rich in natural flora and fauna, and you can find many kinds of bird species lying along trees and even going at the beaches to search for food and they are quite tame. some will even go near you if you throw some food pieces at them while you are just hanging out at the beach and eat them and there are various species of birds near here like sparrows, swiftlets, mynah and more.

Built as a film set for 'Anna and the King', it is a bit of a tourist trap but worth stopping to have a look at if you are passing.

On our bus drive we went past traditional houses, which are a lot different to mine at home. I love seeing the way the locals live.
