    the cable car

    by call_me_rhia Updated Apr 4, 2011

Of the beaten path... only because it's off the main road... not because it's devoid of tourists. I'm talking about the cable car going up (and across) to Mount Gunung Macincang (708 metres high). The vertical part of the trip is quite interesting - and definitely not suited for people afriad of heights. Views from the top are spectacular, but it's only worth going there on a very clear day.

The cable car starts inside the very tacky Oriental Village, and it runs from 10/11 in the morning until 7 PM (I think). The price should be about 15 RM for adults and 5 RM for children.

    Hiding place

by Flipboy Updated Jul 7, 2006

Walking through the woods for a while, we can upon a small clearing where it seems some person was living. The structure on the right, we weren't able to figure out, looks like it might be for shelter when it rains?

    Langkawi Cable Car

by natwest Written Jul 26, 2005

I think the cable car is a must to experience.
Located in the west of the island inside the Oriental Village.

It claims itself to be the world's longest rope cable, 950m in length. There are two stations on the mountain, so you can get off at the first station, take a couple of photos and then head onto the other peak, which is even higher or vice versa.

The scenery from the top of Mat Chincang is totally breathtaking. I didn't even dare to look down given that I am phobic

The amazing thing is you can even see the clouds below or surrounding you from the top. You can see the clear blue Andaman Sea in front of you. When you are the top of Mt. Mat Chinchang, you are offically 705m above the ground.

The cable lead looks so steep that I first thought it's like a roller coaster ride racing back down to the bottom, but thank god, it's quite slow that it gives you time to look at places further afield. Don't look down if you are phobic too!

It would cost you RM 24/one way to get to Oriental Village from Kuah Town (taxi). If you are staying in Berjaya Langkawi Beach Resort and Mutiara Burau Bay Resort, I think you can even walk there.

N.B. You have to pay to go into the W.C. next to the gift shop and it isn't very clean. I would say try the one (free) next to the Thai theme street in the Oriental Village

    Wed 1200-1800

by alisonr Written Sep 5, 2002

Not really off the beaten path, as they are everywhere! The rice paddies and landscape are just beautiful. The day we were there it rained and little and then beautiful sun shine, which made them look even more spectacular.

Built as a film set for 'Anna and the King', it is a bit of a tourist trap but worth stopping to have a look at if you are passing.
