Hand blown vase by kyoub We always make a trip to Langkawi Cyrstal for hand blown glassware. This makes great gifts to give others or for yourself. There are pieces in all price ranges and no one pressures you to buy. It is much better to go to the site where they are made than to buy them in a gift shop.
Everything is duty free but that doesn't mean that they are cheap. I especially like to buy the paperweights because they travel well.

spoilt for choice by mizzzthanggg I forgot to take note of the name of the shopping mall but the supermarket in there sells a wide choice of good quality cigars, cigarettes and alcohol.
Wine, scotch, rum, brandy, tequila, gin, bacardi, vodka, beer... (you get the picture)
Compared to a crate of 24 cans of Carlsberg for RM118 on sale in Kuala Lumpur you pay RM36 in Langkawi. Compared to RM48.00 for a bottle of Malibu rum at the KLIA airport, you pay RM27.00 for the same in Langkawi. Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkAddress: Kuah Town

by Popee Night Markets or Pasar Malam as the local calls it. Most locals will go to do their daily glossaries shopping and marketing. You can buy from hot cooked food, fresh vegetables, fresh meat and clothings. My favorite dish is Ayam Percik (Spicy Barbeque Chicken) and Asam Laksa (Rice Noodles in Spicy Fish Gravy), it will only cost you RM1 to RM2 - Yum! Yum! The night markets can be found at various villages on different days: Monday - Ulu Melaka, Tuesday - Kedawang, Wednesday - Kuah, Thursday - Temoyong, Friday - Air Hangat, Saturday - Kuah, Sunday - Padang Masirat Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink

The name 'Kuah' is a Malay word meaning 'gravy' and is associated with an ancient legend of two battling giants who overturned a gigantic pot of curry (kuah) at the spot where the town now stands. Once a rustic town with few streets, present day Kuah is a thriving centre of modern hotels and shopping-cum-business complexes, but without the over-crowding and bustle of modern cities. Kuah is a duty free shopping haven with a wide variety of goods sold at attractive prices and its restaurants offer excellent culinary delights, especially fresh seafood. Leave a Comment Theme: Local CraftDirections: The main town is located on the south-eastern tip of Pulau Langkawi. The Kuah jetty is the landing point for boats to the neighbouring islands.

by lilipit This shop is about 2 to 3 storeys high. It is more a department store cum supermarket. It is indicated in the Langkawi map that you get from the airport. I am not too sure about whether the prices are competitive, but there's a good range of things from food, drinks, chocolates to suitcases and electrical items Leave a Comment Theme: Department StoreAddress: 14A, Pokok Asam, Kuah, 07000 Pulau LangkawiPhone: 04-9667528/6372Directions: It is in Kuah. If you drive, you can turn into a left lane just after the shop, and drive right in - there's a bigger parking space inside facing the beach, rather than parking along the busy main road

by Imbi It is the biggest one roof shopping place in Langkawi. It is located in Kuah, and have different kind of shops. I will not say it is shoppers paradise but still it is like a paradise when you enter in this air conditioned shopping centre when it is 35 C outside. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

batik sarong galore.. by eelaine other than being a duty free island, langkawi also have a lot of locally produced items to offer.. some of which are not available anywhere else..
some of the local products worth looking at is this healing ointment called gamat.. it's actually made of sea cucumber.. the story goes that a long time ago, a fisherman stepped on one of these creatures and had his legs glued with the sitcky white secretion from the sea cucumber.. in his frustration, he took an axe and hacked up all the sea cucumber around him.. the next morning, he found that all the hacked up sea cucumber are all healed and whole again.. that gave him the idea.. if the sea cucumber could heal itself, then it should also be able to heal people’s wounds.. thus, the “minyak gamat” industry began.. other than that, other items to consider buying is batik sarong, t-shirt, crytal, marble, etc. Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

Duty Free Shop In Kuah by phil_uk_net In Kuah, the main town on the island, are several 'Duty Free' places. The whole island, in fact, enjoys this status. The shops resemble duty free places at airports with the selection of goods they have on display. I found that the shops selling electronic goods, such as cameras, did not have the latest models available, as can be found in Singapore and KL for instance. Research prices carefully as a non-discounted price without duty on Langkawi may be higher than a discounted price elsewhere with duty. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Kampai! by nujnay Langkawi Island is well-known for its duty-free shopping. Among all things, alcoholic beverages are popular on the island. But, I personally think that beers and hard liquors , that's available on the island, are sort of watered down. They tastes funny. So, just one advice for everyone, dont be greedy and buy unselectively. Taste first and then decide. You dont wanna pay for nothing. Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink
