Lagenda Park by phil_uk_net Have you noticed how, in many places where there is an unusual geological feature, there is a stupid story attached to account for it? Normally along the lines of (but not quite): "The island used to be inhabited by giants and one day the biggest giant was having a beer and watching his favourite football team on Sky TV when a bad penanlty decision was given. He was furious with rage and threw his beer bottle down .... which is why there is a big hole in the ground over there." Oh, really? I have heard so many of these silly stories and legends on my travels it is almost an involuntarily action to start yawning when I hear another. Yes, I know I'm old and cynical. Langkawi, or "The Island of Legends" has more the its fair share of 'legends' and there is a small park about these. Apart from the silly stories it is a very pleasant, well-maintained park and worth walking around - especially as it is free. Leave a Comment Directions: It's in the main town of Kuah, quite near the jetty. Ask a local or taxi driver for the exact location.

Cable Car Station by wufei Langkawi is primarily a laid back destination, with very little in the way of action or adventure opportunities. Perhaps the closest thing to a thrill ride is the cable car up to the top of Mount Mat Chinchang. The base station of the cable car line is next to the Oriental Village shopping center. From the base station the cable ascends up past two towers and then up to the middle station. The incline is technically 42° according to the brochure, but the ride from the second tower up to the middle station feels almost like a vertical climb just a few feet away from the vertical rock face of the mountain. On the way up to the middle station, you get a good view of the Telaga Tujuh ('Seven Wells') waterfall just north of the cable car line. The cable car was built without constructing any roads through the jungle. All the materials were lifted into place using helicopters Continue .. Mount Mat Chinchang Cable Car 2 Leave a Comment

Cable Car by wufei Continue from Mount Mat Chinchang Cable Car 2 Looking from the top along the south coast of Langkawi. The Oriental Village and cable car base station is at the bottom middle. At the middle station, having climbed 650 meters (about 2,150 feet) up from sea level, you can alight from the car to take in the view, or stay in the gondola while it makes a nearly 90° turn to head up to the top station. If you elect to step off, you can catch another gondola up to the top station on the other side of the control booth. If you've managed to keep your lunch down on the way to the middle station, then the trip to the top station is easy. From the top you can see much of the island, its surrounding islands, and even Tarutao Island in Thailand to the north. There is a small snack bar at the top station, which has a rather space-age look with its round viewing platforms. Admission Fee The round-trip fare for adults is RM 15 (US$ 4.00), for children the fare is RM 5 ($1.25). Operating hours are 10:00 am to 8:00 pm daily, and the operation may be curtailed in extreme weather. Leave a Comment Directions: Gunung Mat Chinchang Near Oriental Village

Summer Palace by wufei Summer Palace (Anna & The King Movie Set) In 1999, when Thailand turned Hollywood away for the filming of the movie "Anna & The King", starring Jodie Foster and Chow Yun Fat, the production team discovered Langkawi. The Summer Palace in Chiengmai was thus recreated in Pantai Kok, with its beautiful green surroundings, to represent the Jetty Pavillion, the main building of the palace, courtyard and Anna's house. Construction commenced on 15 February 1999 and was completed on 30 March 1999. Constructed in one and a half months, this movie set is 95% wood. When filming was completed in June 1999, the set was not dismantled but reconstructed to make it a permanent structure. Today, visitors will find a touch of the modern within this old Thai replica as the Summer Palace in Langkawi It was opened to the public in April 2000. Admission is RM3.50 for adults and RM2.00 for children. Leave a Comment Directions: Pantai Kok

The Langkawi Cable Car is the world’s longest free span for a single rope cable car. Its a 2.2km ride up a 42 degree incline to the top of Mount Mat Cincang. Situated inside the Oriental Village Langkawi, the ticket will cost RM25.00 per adult and RM18.00 per children (3 to 12 years old). During my recent visit, one that holding a MyCard will get 50% discount fees. At the top of the mountain, you may have a clear view of Langkawi and its surrounding. A hanging bridge also is available at the top for visitors to walk on it. A spectacular view awaits once reaching at the top. For the hanging bridge, it is kinda tiring for those who had never performs regular exercise one need to do a little bit of climbing to reach the cable car station again after going down to the hanging bridge. Nevertheless, the cable car runs very fast and its a worth visit place in Langkawi. Address: Langkawi Cable CarPhone: 0126230441Directions: Oriental Village Gunung Mat Cincang
