    Eagle Square

by Madasabull Written Feb 23, 2014

Eagle Square (Dataran Lang) was a lovely place to spend a few hours, and there was other things to see besides the giant Eagle, which is the symbol of Langkawi, but not a great deal.

There are lovely walks along the shore here, with little bridges and wooded areas to enjoy. The view was really nice across the water.

A place worth a look and a couple of hours to chill.

    Pantai Cenang Beach

by Madasabull Written Feb 23, 2014
    4 more images

Pantai Cenang Beach has everything you need for a great beach holiday.

As we strolled along the white sand on the wide beach, we watched people enjoying all the usual water sports like the banana ride, sailing and skiing.

The water was clear and calm, and it's calmness was no doubt due this being a sort of bay, surrounded by beautiful small islands.

Along the beach there are plenty of bars and places to eat, and along the main road that runs along the beach, there are hotels and bigger restaurants and bars.

Although there are lots of things to do around this beach, it didn't feel overcrowded by people or buildings, it just felt relaxing, and I would love to spend time here in the future.

    Nelson's Corn In A Cup!!!!!

by Madasabull Written Feb 22, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I know! Some of the food we have seen on our travels that are seen by local people as Fast Food, is amazing.

But none have had me laughing so much, and telling everyone I meet (who ask about my travels) about Corn In A Cup :) It even sounds funny.

But I kid you not, there were people walking around the Mall in Langkawi, eating corn with a spoon, like it was ice-cream.

Instead of laughing, I should have bought some and tried it, but I could imagine the taste easy enough, and standing there with Corn In A Cup, nooo!

    Black Sand Beach

by shannsow Written Oct 17, 2013

Black Sand Beach or known as Pantai Pasir Hitam is a spectacular beach on the island of Langkawi. According to the folklores, this beach had been the witness to the Battle of the Birds and the remnants of the war are still discernible on its sands. Another tale states that killer eddies and whirlpools became the water graves of naive sailors and blackened the sands of this beach. Other fable narrates that a fisherman received the wrath of a mermaid, as he stole her ring. The mermaid's curse charred the land and the black sands became the sign of the man's offense. People also consider that the black sand beach is the result of burnt soil from the rice fields which were burnt during the Siamese War. The burnt soil, probably, flowed to the sea and got washed up at this beach

But Nowaday the beach ain't beautiful as the passed,a lot rubbish stand on the beach.

    Langkawi Cable Car

We have to miss taking this steepest cable car ride in the world (say in the brochure), we simply do not have the time to wait for 1.5 hours for a ride. May be, we will come again..

Express Lane - this special lane is for anyone who have a lot of money and don't want to wait in the queue. Pay extra RM50 along with the normal ticket of RM38, and get ready for the ride.
Hmmm...I rather sleep than waiting and pay extra.. :-))

It is pretty exciting to visit the Langkawi Underwater World at Pantai Cenang. So many animals like marmoset, seals, penquins, all types of fishes - piranha, sharks, tiny cute little fishes and many more to see..You may have seen a better one in other places but why not, see again.. This is my third time visits to Langkawi Underwater World.

Open daily - 10am to 6.00pm. (last entrance at 6pm) you need at least an hour to visit all the interesting section.

Admission Fee : Adult RM38 (without Mykad) / RM28 (with Mykad)

I showed my Mykad at the ticker counter and the lady was so kind to give me and my friend (a foreigner) RM28 tickets..Happily walked in with a big smile - Save RM10. :-))

    Langkawi Cable Car

by niksh Written May 8, 2013
    2nd Stop deck view
    2 more images

Closes at 6pm except on Valentine's day (till late: so i was told).

Usually will close on heavy rain, but should you get a good day in Langkawi, I would recommend head for the cable car.

The ride takes about 15 minutes. There are two stops:
1st being the overview deck from a lower height.
2nd being two overview decks at a higher altitude.

1st stop is not a must for you to get out, but the advantage of this stop is that you don't have to climb lots of steps to get to the deck. If you stop here however, you will have to queue to to get into the gondola for the next stop. Some of the visitors might just opt not to stop here therefore the gondola might be full and you will have to wait a bit longer.

2nd stop is higher and you have to climb more steps (yes it needs some climbing workout so be prepared if you are not a climber). This is where you can go to the scenic bridge*. As of May 2013, I was told that the bridge is closed for maintenance and the cable car is just opened from a two week maintenance. The view from this stop is much better and yes there is a shop here where you can get some snacks and drinks to enjoy at the top.

Note: With the stairs and some climbing, might be a bit hard for those with very small children. Otherwise you can just enjoy the Cable car ride.

aussirose enjoys Happy Hour Beaside Bar Langkawi
    4 more images

Ahhh yes, Happy Hour. Now this is getting your priorities right! Part of a woman's job is to save money on stuff so that there is plenty left for shopping....know what I mean? ;o)

So, the first thing you do is to check out when Happy Hour is. The saving over a week should get you a few more braclets and rings lol.

Happy Hour at our accommodation was definately worth it! 2 Cocktails for the price of 1.... Oh yeh!! :o) .... Coupled with the awesome view over the beach (the beachside bar)..... and well deserved after a hard day sightseeing!

    What more could you want?!!

    Cable Car and Sky Bridge

by utchie Updated Sep 4, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Another must do in Langkawi. For those who have fear of heights (I do too!) - don't let the heights fool you. The place is too good to miss because of this fear.

For maintenance, the place is frequently closed. So I suggest that you try to do this in your first day so that you will still have a second chance if its closed. Ask reception to place a call to check if they are open.

The cable car ride is very fast - around 10 minutes one way. Take your time on the viewing deck to enjoy 360 view of Langkawi.

The Skybridge was closed when we went there - its looks really scary (for me, with fear of heights) but very inviting.

This tour costs 30RM. Cab ride from Cenang area is around 25RM one way.

There are lots of restaurant and shops in the Oriental Village (another good spot!) below.

    Tengah Beach

by utchie Updated Sep 4, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Tengah beach is less crowded than Cenang beach. Most para sailing is done here because of the crowd in Cenang.

In my impression, the accommodations in Tengah is more expensive than in Cenang. The luxury spas are plenty here.

In the Lighthouse Restaurant - there are yoga classes every Monday - Wed and Sat at 8:30AM. The class is led by Dorothy from Langkawi Yoga (Google for more info). The fee is 20RM, mats provided. If you are a practicing yogi with extra hour in Langkawi - do not miss this. The relaxation is very good - instead of the "nature sounds" in CDs, hear it live - and the bright sky is just what you need as you open your eyes after the relaxation.

Tengah beach is walking distance from Cenang -its a quite a long walk but in the afternoon, when the novelty stores are open and the sun is not so high, you will not notice the time and distance. Cab is around 8-10RM, less than 5mins ride.

    Cenang Beach

by utchie Written Sep 4, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Spend a lot of time on the silky sand of Cenang Beach. Go jogging, jet skiing, wake-boarding, banana boat, para-sailing or just sit down and enjoy the view.

    Sunset is best.. :)

Walk the stretch of Cenang beach - there are lots of restaurants and stores. Have your hair braided and get a henna tattoo.

If you decide to have a picnic on the sand, make sure to leave nothing but footprints.

It costs around 20RM cab ride from Langkawi Airport to Cenang beach.
