Local travel agencies arrange transfer in cooperation with Thai agencies. We were picked up by minibus (A/C) which took us to the harbour for the ferry to Thailand. There with one of these "open" busses to town, where a VIP-bus waited for us (great! and very comfortable) for onward transfer. In Trang we had a "stop over" for approx. 2,5 hours at the local travel agency's office, which turned out to be handy, as there was a huge department store just around the corner. Prices were really good and we did a lot of shopping - in fact time turned out to be to short ;-) . Then another minibus (A/C) took us and some locals to Koh Lanta Ferries and we were dropped off directly at our hotel on Koh Lanta! The trip took the whole day but was transfer and sightseeing all in one! Price for all this was approx. 35 to 40€ per person. (Bargaining was not possible!) The moment you come out of the jetty/Airport, you will be swarmed by a host of travel agents asking you to make all the bookings including hopping Island tour, water sports, rental car/bikes throı them. Donıt bother much if you have all the booking done in advance. In my case, I talked to one guy called Ezan (mobile no. 019 2498694) because he promised me the best rate for a rental car and he was true. But later I realized, the rates quoted by almost all the agents are mostly same and they donıt cover insurance. Its not a major issue in Langkawi as driving is a smooth affair. He asked for my Driving License but said that in case I donıt have it, doesnıt mind. This was funny, as I was thinking a driving license was the most basic prerequisite for a rental car. We rented a 1.3 Litre Proton Wira (Local Made in Malaysia car) automatic gear transmission AC car with FM radio and costed us RM 60.00 per day. Manual version was available for RM 50.0 per day (Proton Iswara). This was new car, hardly 6 months old and was in excellent condition. We collected the car keys, local Langkawi Road Map (this map is also available on the website www.langkawi-online.com in pdf format). From the jetty, we just drove down to our Hotel. On the way, we filled 20 Ltrs petrol (worth RM 25.00) at a gas station in Kuah City. Langkawi is a small island and even if you go round the island two times, you would do less than 100 KMs. So 20 ltrs would be sufficient for 3-4 days. Gas stations are clearly marked on the main roads, are plentiful and the above mentioned Map gives indication of all the gas stations in the island. Most of them are open till 2000 hrs. The road markings are excellent except in few places and its difficult to get lost. People are more than helpful. The roads are smooth, narrow and winding at places but hardly any traffic. It was interesting to see markings on the road to indicate animal crossing and once on our way to Seven Wells waterfalls, we encountered a lot of monkeys crossing the road. by lilipit No...no....not asking you to ride a cow around the island :-) but we sighted this creature on the road there. Driving in Langkawi is very easy. There is not much traffic on the island and coastal areas. Except in the town area (Kuah). For a whole day of driving, we only had to stop at 2 traffic lights - one in Kuah, and one nearer the jetty area. We rented an auto Proton Wira (saloon car) for RM130 from the hotel we stayed in. And the rate is for 24 hrs. The map that was provided to us is the same as the one you can get from the Airport. It is not very detailed, but good enough. One thing you need to look out for are the cows/buffalos/monkeys. The warnings signs are placed near plantations/forested areas, and they are there for a very good reason. When we were driving at night, imagine our shock when we saw a group of 7 to 8 cows (all glistening wet with mud) dashing out from the right side of the road. Luckily I noticed pairs of eyes reflecting our headlights. Why rent a car? - drive down to Tanjong Rhu, a scenic beach. it is quiet, and greta for seashell picking. Just park under the big tree along the beach, and you can spend an hour or two there - visit the 'roaming' night market - check from your hotel where they are for the night - make your way to barn Thai restaurants - save on taxi fares - drive along the coastal areas - drive to the cable car base station, 7 wells waterfall etc. Best of all, parking is practically free in many areas ! by Imbi there is just only one way to get to your Hotel, Motel or Resort, which is Taxi. When you come out of the Arrival Hall, you will notice on your left side a desk, where you could hire a taxi. You tell them your destination and they have fixed prices for each destination. It is usually very cheap around £3 to £8 for one taxi with max of four passengers Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Need A ride?? by Popee As there is no public transport on the island except cab/taxi, the best way to explore the island is to drive. You can rent a car from the airport, jetty and from most of the resorts. The cost to hire a car is about RM50. I managed to get a Nissan Sentra for RM80. If you are good at bargaining, you might get a really good price. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Dean by phil_uk_net If you don't want to rent a car or motorbike yourself, there are plenty of freelance drivers willing to show you around the island. The picture shows Dean who describes himself as a 'transporter'. His mobile phone number is 016-496 5368. He charges RM20 per hour and, on average, a tour of the island will take around 4 - 5 hours. This works out more expensive than hiring a car yourself, which can be done for as little as RM50 per day, but a driver will have local knowledge and you can relax while he does the driving. by Imbi Cheap and budget flights are not only in United Kingdom. There are some local Ryan Air and Easyjet Airlines give you opportunity to get a cheap flight. Air Asia (www.airasia.com) offers some cheap flight from Kuala Lumpur. I got two return tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi for £26 including all taxes. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

to get around langkawi, the best way is to rent a car.. langkawi put in place a pretty good road system with fantastic road signs (the best i've ever seen in malaysia).. so, it's really easy to drive around.. it's cheap and convenient.. it goes as low as rm50 a day for a small car.. i paid rm150 for a new nissan sentra for two days.. definitely the best way to get around langkawi.. the company we rented the car from gave us a pretty good rate and the car was in quite a good condition.. they are sr langkawi travel and tours at booth number 9 in the arrival hall of langkawi international airport.. definitaly recommended especially is you're flying into the island.. cable car trip with a lovely view.. by eelaine take the cable car to the to top of gunung mat chinchang.. get a lovely view from the top.. and the steep ascend and descent make the ride an exciting one! the base station is located within the oriental village.. the journey covers a total of 2.2 km at an incline of 42 degrees! from here, you get breathtaking view of the surrounding lush greem rainforests, the telaga tujuh waterfalls, the blue ocean and some of the pristine islands that make up the langkawi island cluster.. as you approach the middle station, look out for the unique rock formation from some 450 million years ago! the top station, standing at 709 m above sea level, holds two viewing platforms that allows for an amazing view that goes right up to south thailand.. truly a wonderful experience! the price for this dramatic experience will set you back rm15 for an adult and rm5 for a child between the ages of 3 and 12.. the cable car operates from 10:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. daily except for tuesday and wednesday where it starts its operations an hour later at 11:00 a.m. however, operation hours are also dependent on wind speed condition..
