We arrived by Cruise Ship at Langkawi. Waiting at the dock, are quite a few taxi drivers. Walking onto the Resort, we had a look around there, then asked a taxi driver here for his price. It was cheaper than the others so didn't bargain. Our driver was lovely, "no worries Langkawi" he would say when we wanted to lock the car. He was most obliging, would make many photo stops for me, and took us everywhere we wanted to go. We finished early, seen all we wanted, and gave him a tip for his excellent service. He spoke quite good English Theme: Car/Motor Home

It is advisable to book your hotel in advance. Since you are travelling in November please take note that Malaysia school holidays starts from 15 November 2008 - 4th January 2009. Therefore book your hotel in advance if you are going to Langkawi during this time. Car rental varies from type of vehicles and price. I rented a car from the jetty point and you can also do it at the airport. They have a brochure of the pricing & car model but you can bargain for cheaper price. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Firefly flies from the old Subang Airport in KL by ashafruddin MAS, Airasia and Firefly flies to Langkawi. Firefly is Mas's answer to budget Airasia. At the airport there are plenty of car rental booths. The cheapest cars would be one of those local Proton Sagas or Perodua Kancil (Daihatsu Mira) at RM 50 to RM60 per day. There are plenty of accommodations to suit all budgets in this sleepy island getaway, except when there is a major event or happenings. Theme: Airplane

Renting a car is very easy in lagkawi on self drive basis. Drive the car your self :) that is more fun. Langkawi dont have much traffice so it is very easy to drive thru langkawi, as the roads are easy, less signals and the drive is very pleasant. You can rent a car from airport. However, we rented it from outside out hotel. A small car on self drive basis costed around RMB 40/ day but it was worth it. Made travelling around langkawi pretty easy. you can stop at various point and attractions. Finding a car parking is easy so the car is safe. Feul in malaysia was cheap so raelly enjoyed my 3 days there. Theme: Car/Motor Home

Beach along Pantai Centang by KoalaB Budget priced accommodation easily obtainable right on the beach at Pantai Centang. We found best way to get around was by taxi. Even hired one for whole day and the driver took us to many places he knew about. Very cheap. Don't miss the cable car ride to the top of the mountain - spectacular views! We booked airport transfers + vans from this tour company in Langkawi : SHAROM LEADING TOUR (AS0237468-W). Address : No. 9, Bukit Tekuh, 07000 Kuah, Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia. Telephone : (+6)012 4006674 (Ms.Geetha). First sign of trouble was that they took 2 weeks & lots of pestering before we were issued a receipt for our payment. The person-in-charge (Ms. Geetha) claimed that she did not know how to scan or attach a copy of the receipt to her email. Fine but there wasn't even a confirmation email even when asked for one as an alternative confirmation of our payment. We were a party of 26 people. When we arrived, only 1 van (Unser) was available to transfer the first group of people to our hotel, located about 15 mins drive from the airport. It took the driver an hour after several phone calls for him to pick up the rest of the party! We rented 2 vans for the last day of our holiday. We were told the vans would be at our hotel before 10:00am for us to check it out, etc. At 9:45am, we called the person-in-charge (Ms. Geetha) & were informed that the previous rental party had yet to return the vans but the vans would be there in 1/2 hour's time. At 10:20am, we called Ms. Geetha again & were told that the vans were on their way. For the next 50 minutes, at least 10 phone calls were made to Ms. Geetha through 3 different handphones but all calls were left unanswered or were quickly cut off. When queried later, Ms. Geetha's reply was "WHAT FOR TO ANSWER YOUR CALL? MY REPLY WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME". At 11:10am, the 2 vans finally arrived - First van had its Rear light smashed and both vans had bald tyres! The condition of both vans were appalling. We had no choice but to accept the vans otherwise our whole day of plans would have been ruined. As it is, we lost 1/2 a day waiting for the vans to turn up. Then, we had to spend time at the second Petrol Station (first nearest one was out of fuel) because the fuel tank was totally empty and to pump air into the tyres. The night before we were to leave, Ms. Geetha cut off all calls to her handphone so we were left without any confirmation of our airport transfer. Considering the problem, we made alternative arrangements to get to the airport early. One group was already at the airport counter checking in when Ms. Geetha called to ask what time was the airport transfer required. She even blatantly replied "OH MAYBE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH MY CHARGER" when asked why she cut off her calls the night before. Although she refunded RM40.00 to us, overall, it would be best to avoid any bookings with Sharom Leading Tour and beware of Ms. Geetha's poor customer service. Last word of warning - Their website (www.langkawi-map.com.my) is infected by a worm. We had to quickly scan our PC when our Avast anti-virus picked up the threat. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

You can roam around Langkawi by renting a Car or Motocycle or Bicycle. You need to show your license if you need to rent a Car or Motorcycle. This will be a most convenient way for most of the tourists coming in groups. Otherwise, you can book a cab from the hotel lobby. The taxi fare to anywhere in Langkawi from anywhere is fixed I suppose. In Holiday Villa, there is a display board at the lobby with taxi rates to all places in Langkawi (one way). We paid 24 MYR for one-way to Cable Car Station from Holiday Villa and we paid the same amount while coming back. Theme: Car/Motor Home

It's quite difficult to bargain with taxis in Langkawi. They usually don't budge if you want a lower price. It should usually cost between 6-25 myr, 6 is when you want to travel a short distance, like the ferry point to kuah, and 20/25myr for getting from example, kuah to the west side of the island. I think the best way is to rent a car if you or someone you are travelling with, can drive. It's quite cheap, I think car rentals can vary from 20-80 myr a day for the Isawara Proton (all those grey standard rental cards, its a manual), I got mine for 40myr a day from the Langkasuaka resort package. We filled it with half a tank for about 40 myr. We didn't use it up in 2 days, maybe used 2/3s of it. The car is really good if you want to go to alot of places, and some places like the beaches, might not have a steady flow of taxis coming, so its better driving. I heard it is possible to rent a taxi by hour, but i haven't seen people doing that while i was there. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
