Pasar Malam Che Yeh: Bargain! Bargain!!

    by siti_aminah Written Feb 22, 2015

Make sure you bargain while shopping in Kota Baru and Rantau Panjang. The things there are cheap and good. So take the opportunity to bargain too.

The best place for bargaining is Pasar Malam Che Yeh, located in Kota Baru. It is called Pasar Malam as it is only open at night. 'Pasar Malam' in Malay means nite bazaar.

What attracted me at this pasar malam is the color chicks!!! Yes the chicks are being dyed to look more cool. They are cute and how I wish I could bring some back home :-(

Rantau Panjang & Pengkalan Kubor: Shopping at the border

by zuyao Written Feb 24, 2007

Duty free zones are located at Pengkalan Kubor and Rantau Panjang. This is the place to go if you want to shop for cheap imitation T-shirts, souvenirs, pots and pans, etc. Try to go early as it gets hot and stuffy later in the evening. Driving is the easiest way to get to both towns from Kota Bharu although I'm sure taxi and bus services are available. Remember though, this is not the type of duty free zones that you find at airports! Here it's rather like a market. It's an interesting way to immerse yourself in the local style of shopping. Remember, bargain for everything!

When I was last in Pengkalan Kubor, it was possible to take a return boat ride for RM5 to the Thai border town of Tak Bai. There you can get fresh food stuffs and fruits for a good bargain. All this can be done (if you know some locals) without any passports. But with the present political tensions in south Thailand I'm not sure whether such practice is still there. My advice is if you really want to go over to Thailand, use the proper channels.

What to buy: The best buys are T-shirts and imitation football jerseys (quite good).

What to pay: Just bargain hard... start somewhere from the middle and bargain upwards!

I could sit there for ages, ages and ages...
The people are wonderful- order a hot local coffee sit back and enjoy everything what is happening around you...

What to buy: Beneath a lot of possibilities to spend your money on souveniers and clothes, make sure that you are hungry.
This nightmarket is malaysias´ best place to try every kind of food !

Be brave and have one of those green sweets cutted into a rhombic form... mmh-
    coconut...

What to pay: Check out the picture :o)
