by Audrey118 A Famosa means the famous in Portugese - it was once a very mighty fotress. It is among the oldest surviving European remains in Asia. This is once part of the Porta de Santiago, built by Portugese invader Alberqueque. The fort changed hands in 1641 when the Dutch drove the Portuguese out of Melaka. The fortress changed hands again in the early 19th century when the Dutch handed it over to the British to prevent it from falling into the hands of Napolean's expansionist France. But the English and ordered its destruction in 1806. The fort was almost totally demolished but intervention by Singapore founder, Sir Stanford Raffles, who happened to visit Melaka in 1810, it was spared from total destruction. Leave a Comment

by Audrey118 At the front of the church ruins you will see lots of people looking at this statue and all children will ask why 'one had lost'!!! The body was placed in a new coffin and taken back to Goa. The Pope canonized Francis Xavier in 1614, but only upon condition that Francis' right arm be brought to Rome. Legend had it that when the arm was severed, blood flowed as freely as before. Leave a Comment

This was built by Indian Muslim traders by Audrey118 Along Jalan Tokong (Temple street where the famous Cheng Hoon temple is), is the Kampung Kling Mosque. This is one of the oldest in the country; it was built during the 17th century. It has a unique architecture which is a blend of Sumatran and Western architecture with a 3 tier pyramid roof, a touch of Hindu influence perhaps but also has a pagoda look. The carved wooden ceiling is supported by elegant Corinthian-styled columns. The floor is laid with English and Portugese glazed tiles. The mosque is located at the junction of Jalan Lekiu and Jalan Tukang Emas. Leave a Comment

by Audrey118 Jonker Walk located at Jalan Hang Jebat was meant as a showcase to reflect the state's rich ethnic, cultural & historical heritage During the night (Friday-Sunday) it is like a night market but in the day the old prewar shops is rally like a flea market with a Malaccan cultural flavour. There are plenty of stalls setup by the road side selling curios, antiques, local delicacies, souvenirs and many interesting items. There are lots of restaurants, dessert shops, second hand stuff shops, souveniers etc
The picture is of a huge antique shop and I have seen this boy sitting here for more than 20 years!!! Leave a Comment

Mousedeer Roundabout by Audrey118 Melaka was founded in 1396 by an exiled Sumatran prince named Parameswara. Legend had it that Parameswara on his hunting trip one day, he rested under a tree, and one of his dogs cornered a mousedeer and in defense, the mousedeer kicked the dog smartly on its nose. Impressed by the mousedeer’s courage and what he believed was a good luck sign, Parameswara decided to build his empire on this sacred land and named it after the tree he was sitting under, which was the Melaka tree Here is a mousedeer replica in the centre of Melaka town.
